I have a couple of similar issues with the time settings when creating an event back-end (probably front-end too but not tried)

1. REQUIRES END DATETIME... I have this set to NO but if I don't enter anything in the end date field, it won't let me create the event telling me it's needed.

2. ALLOW TIME... I have this set to YES but this seems to make time MANDATORY.... if I try to create an event without a time it won't let me. Most of my events have a start time but undefined end time (and some all all day events).... So I want to do as this setting suggests, allow a time entry but not make it mandatory.
Hi,

Here are some internal changes:

1. The end datetime, if set to not required, will now show an optional word in the placeholder.
2. The end dateime, if set to not required, will now stay empty. If a date is selected and you would like to remove it, just clear the field and the end datetime will be marked as empty on the subsequent save.
3. Allow time will be removed for now as time is a required component for event currently.

Hello Andy,

Please find the response to your inquiries below,

1. REQUIRES END DATETIME... I have this set to NO but if I don't enter anything in the end date field, it won't let me create the event telling me it's needed.

I can't seem to reproduce this issue locally . Where are you seeing the error "it won't let me create the event telling me it's needed"?

2. ALLOW TIME... I have this set to YES but this seems to make time MANDATORY.... if I try to create an event without a time it won't let me. Most of my events have a start time but undefined end time (and some all all day events).... So I want to do as this setting suggests, allow a time entry but not make it mandatory.

When you enable the time, the time would be automatically populated in the field itself. There's no way to actually disable the time currently.

Hi Mark,

Thanks for looking at these....

ISSUE 1 - Attached is an image of the issue I'm having with the REQUIRES END DATE-TIME being set to NO.... I understood that to mean I don't have to input an end date / time... but if I leave the end date field blank it won't let me submit the form.

ISSUE 2 - OK understand this is a current system limitation then. I interpreted 'Allow Time' as meaning it would be optional.... so I guess currently it's really 'Enforce an End Time'. I'll add to voices a future wish for no end time.... many of my events will have a start time but no fixed end time.

Fantastic Fantastic job overall with ES Events. Amazing.

I get the same error as well. In future releases, it might be a good idea to include "End (optional)" if the end date-time isn't required (see attached).

Just following up on this thread to see if it's possible to leave the event's end date empty when the event form loads (assuming the end date is not required). Currently the form loads with the end date 1 hour ahead of the start date.

Thanks.

Glad to see it made it into 1.3.5! I did find one issue however when viewing the event's details (see attached) with an entry that doesn't have an end time ... it displays the start date and time as the end.

The option still displays on my end and removes time when selected. Why remove this admin option?

I'm quite pleased with the new time end setup, the end date part is exactly how I want it! I gave it some thought and came to the conclusion that the start date should not display the current date by default (but do have it pre-selected just like the current end date method). The reason for this is that the user has to fill out a new date pretty much no matter what. It would be silly to create a event page on the day of the event considering that many of the invited folks would not get it in time. By making the user select the date (considering that it is really unlikely to happen at the last second) users are less likely to have their event "immediately" end up in past events.

Found another little issue. When viewing the event main page (that lists all events), the end time is still showing (see attached).

After seeing your latest screen shot I gave it some thought. Why display the date at all? The date already displays on the left side as a calendar icon. Showing the time of course is still very relevant. Here is a simplified version of the date/time:

It says everything we need to know.

Good point Josh,

As a follow up to my comment about the end date when viewing all events, it's only an issue when using Wanderers.

Hello Justin,

Yeah, the Wanderers template needs some updating as well.
