Hi There!

When creating an event, permalink field is not auto generated based on the Event Title. Shouldn't it be auto filled just like Joomla Alias?

Thanks!
I have to agree on this one. It's even more important that the user profile permalink does this.

Hi,

Currently the permalink field doesn't autofill but what you can do is to set the permalink field as not required, and leave the permalink field to be empty, and a standard one will be used when the system generates a permalink.

Indeed ideal to do Jason's suggestion for groups/events. Profiles however are a different story considering that permalinks make the link cleaner. Mark plans on making awesome url's for the profile, not quite sure if it will rely on the permalink or if it will do something else. Basically we are trying to make the user profile as simple as possible. I'm not trying to dock on the idea of permalinks, but some of us do prefer a username to be the url for a profile without the id. This is food for thought rather than a suggestion of what is right or wrong. I also happen to know about Mark mentioning something about unicode and making it work well with multi languages which is why this has to be approached properly.

Hi,

it will most likely rely on the permalink field. We actually don't have anything concrete at the time being.

Thanks for the suggestion Jason.

Personally, I would go for simplified version pending a concrete solution, just auto fill permalink like default Joomla Alias. In the case of multiple user having the same Name, auto add the user ID. If I remember it right, Google does this, if you're the first Jason Rey to sign up for that name then you get a clean JasonRey login ID, if not then an ID is auto added and will give you suggestions based on other info entered like Birthday.

I agree with Josh that permalink in Profile is important.

Guys, don't you think using the term permalink sounds too technical? I guess users don't know the term unless they are bloggers or knowledgeable with web.

FB is using: Friends can view your profile using the link: http://www.facebook.com/jason.rey

I know it's just a language constant and it can be changed. Just pointing it out

Thanks Jason!

I just found another issue with Permalink in sh404SEF. I am getting 404 Error using:

http://www.domain.com/community/events/<permalink>

and I look for the URL in sh404SEF URL Manager and it was not generated. In the frontend, looking at the URL, I am getting:

http://www.domain.com/community/events/item?id=36

or whatever the event ID is.

Thanks!

Hi,

Yes indeed we just found that we missed out the SH404 extension for events.

I actually took the liberty to add the events extension for SH404 directly through your FTP but I am not sure your FTP is pointing to your test site or your live site. And also I am not able to log in to your live site nor test site with the credentials provided in order to confirm the patch.

Hi Jason,

Opppsss! I must have turned off FTP access in our firewall, I just turned it back on. Please try again when you get a chance.

I am talking about our live site, staging and live are both in the same server.

Thanks,

Jackson

Jason, what can I say you're awesome man!

Quick question, is there a reason why the URL has to have /item/? I'm leaning towards shorter URL like:

http://www.domain.com/community/events/7-my-event-name

instead of:

http://www.domain.com/community/events/item/7-my-event-name

Same thing with Groups and Photos.

Thanks,

Jackson

Jackson, this has been mentioned here before. I should create a unified thread addressing all the url's across ES to use Joomla's practices which would make most of them cleaner (the profile one of course is pretty good right now). So for example photos would be site/photo/482-photo-title, events be site/event/128-awesome-night, and groups be site/group/301-photographer-club . ES can have that upper hand against Facebook.
