Preamble:
Anything that happens on a collaborative level is a real pain in the rear end to implement. Take a really simple example of people working on a Blog post together. Like who edits what and who has what rights/permissions. What if we write a Blog post together and I alter your introductory paragraph that you spent weeks polishing. Or you mess with my conclusion and I do not like what you do. It really is a mine/mind field. Then we need versioning etc. Sure there are solutions from throwing money at the problem too having a rigid folder structure where people drag and drop files manually through said rigid folder structure as the project progress… The later can also be scary with all kinds of files ending up in the wrong places!
Where I am at:
If I wanted to edit collaboratively with people on line and money was no object… I would ask them to get the following:
a) An expensive dongle. Apple Mac Computer
b) FCPX
C) Focal Point Server (Or Similar)
Maybe even throw something like this into the mix for laughs.

I could set something like this up reasonable easily in lets say a week, another week or two for testing and trouble shooting, without going mad in the process. But it would probably be overkill for most people…
Collaborative Editing for the masses:
Now trying to figure out how to implement something like this online collaborative editing for pretty much anyone, frankly, that blows my mind. For me Joomla is a little like this video here:
There are just so many way to twist and turn things…
I just do not get basic stuff like is better to have a dedicated video engine for integration in ES or if SI can offer something that might be more than adequate. As great as Stackideas are I can not imagine them having the time and resources to build much video functionality from scratch…
I am a huge project fork fan:

Every now and again I pester Mark about integration. Ditto the Projectfork gang. They have Community Builder integration… And the best thing is that they have an approval system for photos (maybe it got updated for video as well but I do not know) Even if it never got updated I suspect that it would be a piece of cake to hack it for videos!
I like the look of HWD video but need to really check it out properly. And this is kind of where my video expertise breaks down. Maybe you or someone else knows of something better?:

And of course I like the idea of integrating an LMS. Preferable where people can make their own courses in the front end. But am mega skeptical about the options that are currently crystallising…
Oh yeah and the Video chat thing for making tutorials on the fly…
And this is where my current vision work breaks down.
Your links:
Love the Starbucks video. Levis one is also kind of cool. Check this though…

There is a crazy interface in there somewhere that lets you play excerpts of the video around the clock, you need to click through the Site and look for the roll around with your mouse!!! I can not check the exact link at the moment because I am uploading files and my internet is crippled.
UPDATE: Have just checked it myself and it looks broken. You had a clock like interface and could pick a time depending on where you were on the clock. It looped perfectly!!! At least it used to.
The Pop Corn solution looks really interesting. First thing that occurs to me though is who is behind it and are there any copy right issues e.g. do you sell your soul to them for the privilege of using their software or what if I use a Madonna song in a video I am working on as Layout music (i.e. would intend to switch it out later.) Would this get flagged like on You Tube!?!
Full Circle Collaborative Workflow:
This brings me full circle back too my collaborative workflow example at the beginning. Like lets say you used something like Pop Corn maker you still have to co-ordinate, version and approve everything. I think that is a HUGE undertaking!
There is another project that I am trying to dig out of the depths of my brain. It was an advert that was made with a truck on a hill and some animated balls. The balls fell out of the back of the truck. This is really computer intensive work. Hundreds of balls for every frame!!! However it worked, the guys doing this had a pretty loyal Twitter base and Tweeted “hey we need help rendering our animated balls.” So people got segments of the film and rendered lets say 10 seconds each and pasted them all together and bingo. I will post the link when I find it.
And that brings us last but by no means least to Easy Social and the amazing functionality that it has… Custom fields etc. Mind boggling stuff!!!
