StackIdeas adds Drag and Drop and Innovation

With our first look at EasyBlog 5, the hard working StackIdeas Team has blown us away with the teaser that shows us end-users the flexible drag and drop capabilities that will make EasyBlog 5 extremely intuitive and easy to use. It is my hope that when you add similar UI features into EasySocial such as the forthcoming very important Video features to EasySocial 1.4. I believe the Si Team will innovate and go way beyond what is offered in competing platforms such as JomSocial and social platforms such as Facebook. Let's face it. The standard boring Videos in Categories feature that is in other social networking tools is nothing new, and most often people don't use Videos that much because they are not engaged to watch the videos for various reasons. I believe that the StackIdeas Team can get real innovative with Videos in EasySocial 1.4. and make Videos real engaging.

I sure hope the StackIdeas Team will add valuable input into this discussion and give us feedback before the new Videos features are implemented in ES 1.4, so that the Video features added to ES 1.4 will go way beyond the standard boring video features UI that we see today. I have confidence that the Si Team will include us in these discussions on what is going into Videos, as many have waited patiently for Videos in ES 1.4.

I have researched numerous Enterprise Social social tools and Social Knowledge Management tools over the years and one company that is a pioneer in this field is Bloomfire. http://www.bloomfire.com They have an excellent product, and their approach to the end user experience is radically different and engaging, because they didn't copy the standard Facebook like interface that most every other company has used as a guideline. Instead Bloomfire has come up with an elegant, easy to use drag and drop set of features in their product to engage content creators and end users and have captured a huge growing list of corporate and educational users.

This late spring 2014 the Bloomfire Team added Video Series to their Bloomfire Enterprise Social Collaboration product based on customer feedback, and it has shown a massive boast to their product satisfaction and has vastly increased their sales in a highly competitive market segment.

This is part of the UI - A Drag and Drop approach to creating a Video Series in Bloomfire. I am trying to find a video so i can capture the full UI. I will add it when I find it.

What would you like to see the Videos Feature do for you in EasySocial 1.4?

Imagine a similar Drag and Drop UI for a Video Series Composer

I am sure that a few UI visionaries on this forum can come up with a mockup of what a Video Composer would look like in EasySocial 1.4. I do hope some of you mock one up and add the image below to evolve this discussion. Here is the screenshot of the EasyBlog 5 UI.

What do you think the Video Series Composer UI should look like?

I for one, would be so pleased to see the following Video Composer Features added in ES 1.4:

1. Easily Curate Virtual Video Playlists to Make Videos and Engaging Experience

Quickly and easily create a virtual playlist of multi-media content (videos, audio, sound, slideshows) through an easy to use drag and drop UI to make it real easy for people to gather videos into a container (Series) to teach and educate people about a specific subject, and to train new employees, customers or partners on a specific topic.

You simply drag and drop the desired multi-media video post or video content into a container and organize the videos in the container to guide the users. This feature would also be a great way to create a centralize assets for key meeting or initiatives.

2. Video Series Playlist Composer

Develop a Video Series Playlist Composer that follows the same UI guidelines that the StackIdeas Team has implemented in EasyBlog 5 featuring a similar drag and drop UI that allows content Creators to quickly and easily create a virtual playlist of videos for guiding people through a topic, or for training new employees on a specific topic. You simply drag and drop the desired multi-media video post into the series container and organize the posts in an order to guide the users. Make sure there is an Advanced reporting feature to allow the person who Posted the Virtual playlist of videos so they can track series completion rates by people, or employees, groups or sub-communities.

3. Why Add Video Series rather than the standard Video in a Category - add comments?

A common question that many content creators, managers and administrators of sites hear from users is “where do I start?”

The one Video in a Category - then add comments approach to social engagement is becoming so outdated, and boring, and does little to offer organization of videos into an engaging experience because it uses the less than engaging boring just like everyone else method that makes videos hard to find to allow end-users engaging User Experience for end-users. It's time for an innovative drag and drop Video Series Composer.

By adding the Series Series Composer feature to Videos in ES 1.4 this will provide the best solution and answer. Drag and drop posts into a Series. Think of it as a Recommended Playlist for learning. With a Series of videos, you can structure the experience to build knowledge bit by bit, one video after the other, in an order that the Content Creator chooses so that people can learn best. No longer do people have to go find another similar video that the Content Creator added elsewhere. The videos are contained in the Series as the Content Creator/Author intended. And the viewing of the videos can be tracked with analytics by people and the Author.

Allow Video Series Composer content created and added in EasySocial 1.4 to be added to a future version of EasyBlog 5.x. Another Container Type.

The Video Series Playlist approach with an Innovative Drag & Drop interface would be an awesome addition to the StackIdeas forums and other sites, so that people can learn how to use the features of the StackIdeas products easily. I wish that I had this so I could create and add Videos in a Series to help people learn how to use your products. I have been researching this for a long time and think of it as a Video Knowledgebase at you fingertips.

4. Enhanced User Experience

I believe the StackIdeas Team can be a pioneer leader by adding something beyond the boring Video in a Category that we see today. I think you can create the easiest social learning tool and make it drag and drop simple and easy to use. Your design and development team have been hard at work enhancing EasySocial 1.3 and EasyBlog 5, and we all wait patiently while you implement the aspects of the user experience based on our feedback, and it is my hope that you will include us in the discussions for Videos in ES 1.4 so we can be a more integrated asset into the usability tests and customer feedback as you create EasySocial 1.4 in the Videos section.

The following is the API from Video Series in Bloomfire that will give you an idea of what features are available and how 3rd Party DEvelopers can take advantage of Video Series to implement into ES 1.4.x.

Sam, this is excellent to get input and feedback. As much as the SI Team blows us away with new features, I feel as others might also, that there is a bit of a collaborative feedback disconnect feeling while we are waiting to see the final features implemented. The Voices and viting feature is good, but it still lacks what EAsyDiscuss offers as far as Polls and adding videos and images to get users into active feedback discussions. There is no sense adding the Video Series Conposer feature to EasySocial Voices section without first eliciting feedback and visual UI feature mock ups from people like you that have a keen eye for creating the mockup or wireframe.

I look forward to what you come up with for a visual UI mockup for EasySocial Video Series Conposer.

Video panel screen shot added based on Randall's request.

Awesome stuff Randall. When it comes to Joomla articles and videos, a video/image insert panel is in my opinion the coolest method for inserting them with ease.

Video Insert Panel:

Image Insert Panel:

I have made a short video that gives you an idea of how it can insert, and then I actually coded a image insert panel that shows how you can manage content and navigate the photos you want to view/insert at the same time (it's non functional considering that my scripting skills are not that great). Now imagine if the concepts from the video and my insert panel were combined to make inserting tons of images a breeze! The same concept could be applied to videos. It could have a search from the local videos and have a direct search from YouTube so that your user doesn't have to go off your site to paste in their favorite video even if it has never been associated with your site. Now that would be awesome.

When the time is right, I am more than willing to help the stacked team on the HTML/CSS end of this as well as concepts/logical side. I know that the main focus for now is the core of ES which I'm glad that it is. But eventually the bells and whistles will make EasySocial the best Joomla extension on the market.

Josh,

I was hoping you would also submit a mockup UI for a Video Series Composer and what you have mocked up for a UI is a real easy to use UI and it looks awesome. I look forward to more on this discussion and will be able to comment more tomorrow and give my feedback. I have a dinner to go to tonight.

I finally got around to making a mock up of what a video insert panel could look like:

The article is on the left, the panel is on the right. By clicking any of the video icons it would insert a video. By having it a panel you can continue to insert more videos and scroll down the article without having to re-open it.

I like the developing visuals and I'd like to add related requests to innovate and maximize the social side of what the composer supports for ES videos:

  • Integrate the YouTube Upload Widget to allow ES members to upload from webcam/phone (mobile/desktop).

  • Incorporate Youtube playlists and enable batch upload or selection from an ES member's YouTube channel. A member can place their YouTube channel in composer and add all or selectively add to ES.

  • Enable integration of the YouTube Topic Explorer to help ES members find videos related to queries using Joomla search of site videos via plugin but also from the Google Knowledge graph to find videos related to the ES person/company rather than simple search term.

  • Incorporate the YouTube Live Widget so ES members at events can make video available within the Group/Event/Member page.

  • Enable ES members to launch a Hangout directly from a page/event/group/business page.

This is collaborative thinking at it's best.

It is known that we create our reality moment to moment, and in a few short hours this discussion on what a Video Series Composer could be and look like is wielding initial promising results and this supports the theory that collaborative personal creativity plays an essential role in our perception of the what can be created when people get together and go beyond their boundaries to collaborate to make something a reality.

Discussions like this allow us to collaborate to map and mine those unexplored areas of the brain, and stretch the possibilities beyond familiar limits. We all know what Videos with basic categories (most all social networks such as (Jomsocial, Youtube, Vimeo), or Videos with no categories at all (Facebook videos) have been like and none of these video creation (composer) delivery environments has allowed for taking video to it's full potential. A collaborative interactive Video Series Composer can be that future video knowledge delivery environment we all have been dreaming of to take our social networks and online communities to a whole new level in whatever niche topic area we chose to focus on.

I believe that people who take the time collaborate and share ideas, in whatever way they can, whether it be a little feedback, or some input from new collaborators to feature ideas that have been added thus far. In a few short hours people have added feedback and input ideas such as Eileen suggesting above to add related requests to innovate and maximize the social side of what the composer supports for ES videos. And Josh has added visual mockups, to give people a better idea of what the Video Series Composer can look like, and what Sam will add soon will all help to solve the puzzles to forge new neural pathways and can go beyond habitual thinking processes of what social knowledge videos created with a drag and drop Video Series Composer and display system can be.

This if implemented and evolved by the StackIdeas Team can open up all new potentials to open the mind and go beyond what other people don't dare to think about when it comes to social collaborative videos. By collaborating and learning from each other, we are utilizing that 90% of the brain that science tells us now lies dormant. To come up with new ideas, and add to this discussion don't be afraid to participate. Ask yourself questions that don't have obvious answers, and then add your suggestions and feedback and ideas, or visuals. Allow yourself to contemplate those puzzling situations that have otherwise been ignored before. Everyone has creative potential as yet unrealized and I believe that many of the people in this forum community are here because they want to discover their unrealized talents and we will all be richer for it.

Crossing the Chasm - Imagine the Possibilities[/b]

I'm excited about how this discussion evolves over the next few days and weeks. I look forward to more participation and feedback as to what awesome ideas have already been added to this forum discussion. And I can't what to get Mark's feedback, and ideas from other team members, and members of the community forum

Mark,

If you let me know what future date and time would work best for you? It can wait until ES 1.3 is available, or whatever you think is best. We are all patient and understanding of your time and really appreciate being able to chat with you about this. When we have a date picked, I can organize things, and get some people to help me with this to create an agenda so that we maximum your valuable time. I would think most all of us realize how busy and focused you are, so please let us know what works best, without impacting your development schedule.

Perhaps the first discussion on Skype could include more in the line of questions and answers about what people think the Video input and delivery system should do for the administrator and the end user audience, before we even get into discussing any type of UI?

I for one, hope that whatever Videos for ES 1.4 becomes, it will go well beyond the limitations of placing a video in a category, and then hope people comment, like or share the video. I am sure others will have their own ideas, and hope they share them here.

I have been gathering up some stats on video and it's obvious that Video is an extremely important segment in any social network and online community strategy.

Forrester says online video will become the new norm for communication and collaboration, while Forbes Insights reports that 2/3 of executives choose video over text when learning about a topic.

"Online video will become the new business norm for communication and collaboration over the next five to 10 years." - Forrester Research

"Given the choice between a text document or video on a topic, nearly two-thirds of executives preferred video" - Forbes Insight

The statistics are clear – video works for generating and nurturing leads:

it increases open rates
it increases click-through rates
it leaves a more memorable impression

More Online Video Statistics for 2014
Shutterstock has collaborated with comScore to produce this video that showcases some of the key stats around the growth of online video consumption. For example, 190 million Americans (61 percent of the total population) watched an average of 397 online videos in the month of January 2014, and 36 percent of those videos (or about 143 per person) were advertisements.

Staying with the US, one-in-12 videos was watched via mobile in 2012, the ratio had shifted to one-in-six just a year later. You can watch the America-focused version below, and there are versions for Germany, France and Brazil, too. If you have any involvement in content production or advertising, it’s well worth being familiar with the figures presented in these videos.

I agree Randall, beyond use of ES with video being a way to foster engagement and interaction between members, they can both be used together by organizations and individuals to generate leads and gain business opportunities. But video combined with ES can also be used to monetize for site owners and/or potentially for each ES community member, thereby adding greater value to individual elements of (i.e. events, groups) and of the social network in total (multi-sided platform MPS sites):

  • $ponsored hangouts within the ES ecosystem;
  • $pecial guest speakers/workshops;
  • tutorial$;
  • live event$ when you otherwise can't make it (such as conference, talk, etc.) with live streaming (hangouts can be recorded and automatically saved on members YouTube channel.
  • technical $upport hmmm

How and where in the process you monetize depends on the niche market you're in. Whatever recipe works for your business, you can bet it could be pretty disruptive to your industry --- in a good way for you and your customers

There are many ways to leverage Googles Hangout API to make it uniquely "EasySocial". Just a few quick ideas, one or more ES "Hangout Apps" can:

  • Integrate any Future ES PM System as a "Live conversations" within the Hangout to take questions in advance from the community and answer the most popular ones live during the Hangout.
  • be configured to write to the feed when a user joins a hangout
  • can schedule Hangouts in a Group, Event
  • for those who want to monetize, whatever Stack Ideas creates for subscriptions can be leveraged to support individual transactions to "buy access" to the Hangout - (site admin can benefit via setting a commission for such purchases or perhaps set the ability to use the feature in a subscription plan for the site)
  • enable members to customize backgrounds of the Hangouts
  • allow Hangout creator to manipulate the video feed (i.e. which user shows in main window)
  • support sharing of any ES media available to the member during the Hangout (i.e. any photos from his/her album)
  • automatically store reference to the automatically saved Hangout YouTube video into the corresponding ES video playlist, category, or whatever

“I believe the StackIdeas Team can be a pioneer leader by adding something beyond the boring Video in a Category that we see today. I think you can create the easiest social learning tool and make it drag and drop simple and easy to use.”

Right on Randall!!!

Categories inevitably break down at some point. I have 3 you tube channels and often struggle to squeeze stuff into categories. Ideally I should be able to deal with my Playlists in a more Boolean kind of way ;-) I use FCPX as my video editing program and one of the cutting edge concepts it has is a thing called smart collections. Which in a way are dynamic (Boolean) categories!!!

But back down to earth… I have been thinking about playlists some more. I love the video playlist on the Easy Blog Composer page. By all means drag and drop. What the hell. However my contribution to this thread (apart from the Boolean thing ;-) is the suggestion that it is possible to release previews of videos before they come out. This could mean a simple count down to release…

Videos that have yet to be released but are already being promoted. Similar to the Stackideas EB Composer page. This has in my opinion several major benefits.

First off obviously you can watch videos that some one has selected and sorted for you as they are released. Someone has done the hard work of picking and mixing stuff… OK that was a no brainer :-o

Now lets say if there was an ES Composer with Playlist functionality and there was a setting for when your videos are to be released. One a week, one a month. etc.

This brings me to my second point. If you are at the publishing playlists end of the stick… you can set yourself a target as such.

e.g. One video a month for the playlist ABC.
It is up to you to meet your target.
i.e. upload the video before the appropriate date
If you are late then there is a video appearing in 0 days 0 hours and 0 minutes or similar!

a) This would be a way of offering people an environment where they can organise and structure their thought. In essence filling out an online calendar saying what videos will be ready when…

b) Other members can see who is reliable and meets their target. Chances are that some one who meets every target every time is more reliable than someone who only meets every second target….

c) Last but by no means least this could motivate members to keep playlists up to date! Because no one likes promising something online and then not been seen to have meet their target!!!

The above is somewhat simplified and I can already think of some nuances but I thought that I would throw it in here for discussion!!!

Categories are in my humble opinion dead! My Mantra for the video side of things would be Boolean, Boolean and Boolean.

Need to think about collaborative playlists next ;-)

best

Yes Paul, and to extend we could think of "descriptive metadata" to make it easier to discover relevant data (read "videos"). I'd like to see the flexible custom profile fields made available to site builders so that we could create descriptive metadata (just make it really EASY) for our target audiences to make it easier to discover the videos they want to find.

A composer-type interface would make it really EASY to throw-over those fields we think apply to the video(s) we add. A user throws over the fields that describe in whatever way appropriate to that user or as he/she knows it pertains to the audience. Maybe some fields even prompt for clarification/detail once they're dropped (i.e. dropping over "Wizards-of-design" fields prompts "who" and I list each and every Stack Ideas designer).

Mark, et all, when I read these threads I'm very impressed at the ideas and leads generated by your enthusiasm and knowledge.
The collaborative sharing of knowledge Is amazing.

Can I suggest Mark, that you get into dialog mapping to help you focus and develop your ideas.

I have a mate who has worked with major government agencies and other big companies in this field, as well as now running courses around the world.

They built their business management facilitation around "Compendium", check it out:
http://www.cognexus.org/id41.htm

It is an amazing tool to help realize business objectives. The creative think tank sessions could be mapped by a dialog up mapper who helps steer the conversation.

Yes this may be a lot to learn, but when you have major business players making multi million dollar decisions based on the outcomes of these sessions, the value of knowledge management is realized.

Ryan,

This dialog mapping is very interesting. I did a quick check to learn some more about it. To add some further context to help others understand what dialog mapping is, I am adding the following from the page you linked above:

What is Dialogue Mapping™?

Dialogue Mapping™ is a radically inclusive facilitation process that creates a diagram or 'map' that captures and connects participants' comments as a meeting conversation unfolds. It is especially effective with highly complex or “Wicked” problems that are wrought with both social and technical complexity, as well as a sometimes maddening inability to move forward in a meaningful and cost effective way.

Dialogue Mapping™ creates forward progress in situations that have been stuck; it clears the way for robust decisions that last. It is effective because it works with the non-linear way humans really think, communicate, and make decisions.

In Dialogue Mapping™, as the conversation unfolds and the map grows, each person can see a summary of the meeting discussion so far. The map serves as a "group memory," virtually eliminating the need for participants to repeat themselves to get their points made.

Moreover, Dialogue Mapping™ captures the way that we humans actually converse and solve problems (in a non-linear way), rather than the way most of us wish we solved problems (in a structured way). View a short YouTube demo illustrating how Dialogue Mapping™ does this.

Hi Ellen

You said:

Yes Paul, and to extend we could think of "descriptive metadata" to make it easier to discover relevant data (read "videos"). I'd like to see the flexible custom profile fields made available to site builders so that we could create descriptive metadata (just make it really EASY) for our target audiences to make it easier to discover the videos they want to find.

Not sure if I understand exactly what you are saying here. Like on my Site, people fill out tools of trade. It is reasonable to assume that some one who has Photoshop as a tool might be interested in a photoshop tutorial! Some kind of suggestions system?

Hi All: Thinking Two sections:

Search Videos & Post - Manage Videos

Randall had his series “What did I learn about Easy Social today!”

Lets take that as an example as most people will be familiar with it!

If we rotate through 180 degrees and imagine an interface “What do I want to learn today” where a user could enter keywords into a Search Videos UI and get a dynamic playlist that would be cool. You can also Search for particular authors or videos that are already released or videos that are yet to be released…
Maybe you want to watch videos in a chronological order, have random suggestions or get ES to make an educates guess i.e. make suggestions based on your profile!

The playlist can be free but at some point, to get more you have to pay. On a side note I have a pretty complex profiling system on my so depending on what people enter they can even get playlist suggested automatically. Some one who uses “Blender” as a tool might just be interested in “Blender” tutorials!

Back again on the creating content side of the fence. I think some kind of drag and drop system for posting, embellishing and creating playlists with calendar functions would be cool. Have an article linked to a video or attach some screen shots. i.e. a Post and Manage videos or Videos Composer!

All of this tied into the ES points system where I can potentially (use points) swap or buy videos at a discount.

You probably also need some very basic video functions like being able to set a markers in a video. e.g. The ability to jump straight into video 3 at marker 3. Maybe even setting in and out points and being able to copy and paste sections of videos!

In my line of business (video editing/training) a set up like this would be to the best of my knowledge unique. If you want to learn FCPX for example you either go to one of the 2 or 3 big players and pay money for tutorials or go to You Tube and take your chances in the vast ocean of decent too dodgy tutorials.

Having a community that facilitated: the cultivation, presentation and distribution of training (video) material would be out there ;-) And now I´ve done it, Ive gone a said community. Because there is a full blown Social Community as a foundation stone of any videos functionality that the Stackideas team come up with. This means that there are all kinds of opportunities for learning together.

And now I really have not thought this one through but what if you in that Search Videos UI I talked about at the beginning you could edit the question. Instead of “What did I learn about Easy Social today!”you could say “Want to learn to bake a cake” or “Find videos of your favourite gamers at play”

Users then view, create and distribute videos organised around a central theme but have a variety of ways to put their content both inside and outside the box. Have categories by all means. But then have advanced and beginners categories as well. Enable people to link videos stranding multiple categories. Likewise have pick and mix searching of playlists for user defined keywords. Or take the lazy way and get stuff suggested. Be able to set markers in videos for discussions and comments on videos for discussion in a dedicated community environment!!! etc etc.

Random thought in no particular order

I looked at Kultura which has some how been on my radar for 5 years now
There is a paid and a free version and the people on the free version are pretty grumpy complaining about no existent support and sluggish development. As far as I can make out installing it is relatively easy and it does work with certain LMSs but configuring it and getting it to work seems to be no easy task.

Just snooping around for ideas I stumbled once again on HWD Media Share.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qSdmhobDO4E

There are multiple threads of people requesting ES integration.

https://hwdmediashare.uservoice.com/forums/19653-new-hwdmediashare-features/suggestions/4592491-integration-with-easysocial
http://hwdmediashare.co.uk/forum/73-configuration/71924-integrate-hwd-with-easysocial?limitstart=0

And as far as I can tell Komento pro is already integrated.

Here is an example of a site with their component:

Hi Paul,

We've been using HWDMediaShare since it was HWDVideoShare as our media management system but all our videos are hosted in Vimeo. It's working fine, it's just it really is a Media Share since it also has Audio, Image sharing capabilities. But there's a config option to turn off Audio & Image if you only want Video. Their support is good, no comparison to StackIdeas of course. So far, there's no awesome updates to the component for the past 2 years, I think since HWDMediaShare was lunched, but a lot of bugs has been fixed. They already added an integration with JomSocial but I wonder why they have not worked on integrating with EasySocial. They don't need ES to have video to integrate it. They just released a new update yesterday and I think they would benefit from StackIdeas ChangeLogHQ

Since HWDMediaShare is a niche system like YouTube, I think it is unique by itself. Personally, if EeasySocial Video can only manage Video links (Videos are hosted with YouTube, Vimeo, etc.), categorized them, and integrate with Groups and Stream just like what Photos are now. Then for me it is good enough, I can then drop HWDMediaShare from our website, one less component and cause of possible JS/CSS conflict.

Mark, if I have one request for EasySocial Video maybe it should be called Media I would request considering MP3 or Audio files as well. In our case, we have a needs for both Audio & Video management. Our Audio is simply just the audio part of our Video and we have to provide Users both. With HWD ways of managing media files, Audio and Video are separate from each other, if you want Video you create a Menu for Video and list all the Video, categories and all that, same with Audio. What if include all Media related to the object title, say we have a Media titled "EasySocial Worldwide Developer Conference", you can then choose what Media files are included in this media object. It could be Video of Key Note from Mark Lee, Audio version of the Keynote, and maybe images as well coming, from photo albums. Another feature that I think a lot of Site Admins would love the ability to auto create Video or Audio Podcast XML after a media has been added or saved. Just a thought

Thanks,

Jackson

@Paul mentioned "collaborative playlists". Great idea as it really can help people connect the virtual on-line to real meetups like making the playlist for an event or a group making a playlist of their accomplishments / historical video montage of milestones / important developments.

I wanted to extend his idea with another concept I bumped into which would be "collaborative annotations, transcriptions, or augmented for further understanding or direction".

Imagine the capability for an individual member to add value to a video or for a group or all of the community to do so. There's a site that enables the creation of musical transcription for YouTube videos but there's no reason why it couldn't be text or links [to anything].

So a business could provide in-time transcription that can be searched to quickly get to the important discussion of the "widget x" when it is mentioned. Or a group member could quickly search for when their colleague or friend is mentioned in the video. Or a business could provide text and links to additional information or scaffolding aids to aid learners understand the main topics at the time they occur in the video.

Here are links to the product I'm speaking of, it's called SoundSlice. and the link I provided is to the community area where anyone can select any YouTube video and start adding real-time transcription (it allows plain text or musical notation). Check out my annotation illustrating the idea for an ES capability that would really fire things up in the social network area you can also see it here along with the other community works and you'll get the idea

Here's a Google Developers video featuring the Soundslice guys. I came across these guys at the Google API pages listing what others have done with YouTube REST API's.

In order to zoom out of the synched community annotations click at the spot in this screenshot.
