Hi all,

This is a more official post for the community project that was started here : http://stackideas.com/forums/it-would-be-nice-to-have-a-easysocial-app-that-could-display-zoo-or-k2-content

The app is READY ! For those who have not been following the previous conversation, here is a summary of what the app is doing.

This ES app display 4 different layout (see attached pictures) :

- All items - show frontpage layout of the selected Zoo application (meaning this zoo file /media/zoo/applications/app_name/templates/template_name/frontpage.php
- My items - show items created by the user
- My favorites items - shows items that are selected as favourites by the user, through the use of the new «Add to favorites» Zoo element.
- Viewed items - show items viewed by the user

For this project we have build 5 plugins:

1. ES app that you can install multiple times for each Zoo application
2. Zoo element «Add to favorites»
3. Zoo extension «My items» that create a Zoo extension layout
4. Zoo extension «My favorites» that create a Zoo extension layout
5. Zoo extension «Viewed items» that create a Zoo extension layout

Demo of the app is here : http://demo.htrxuan.de/ (admin/admin2014)

Total cost of the app : 1300-1500$ USD

Community members involved in paying for the app at the moment :

- Benoit (paid 300$)
- Chris (paid 300$)
- you ?

We need more people to help us pay for this app ! Anyone interested by it should let me know here. The more we are, the cheaper it is for everyone. If we cannot find enough people, we will not publish the app for free to the community, it would be a shame ;-)

Now we are waiting for Mark from Stackidea to work on even more integration of the app to ES like notifications, stream, badges and points !

There you go !

B.
Nice to see this going but is there any way I can download this locally or perhaps if you can submit the app on github.com it would be ideal so that we can all work on a central repository. By the way, how do you use this app? (Sorry I am a newbie when it comes to Zoo)

Hi,

It is great to see the APP has been built but you need to define your costing structure, stating the app cost 1300-1500 to develop and then asking community members to help with the cost is fine but i find the post rather insulting in the way you are asking.

Pay in to release it free or pay in to use it!!!

1, Is there a minimum price to pay to use this? $100? $200? or more?
2, If i give up funds and it does not hit $300 what does that mean?
3, If the app has already been developed and you don't hit the 1300-1500 what does that mean, i would go back to the drawing board and think how one could hit the stated price goal. Why not release it and then promote it via Stackideas, the Zoo devs, Yootheme.

If you don't hit the target you will then release it as a paid download, who is going to pay for the upkeep of the addon, if a user pays for the addon they will expect it to work with all future versions of ES, Zoo and that is going to cost for a dev to maintain it.

Again this method is flawed im afraid to say and is without thought.

If there is a place for the addon then users will use it and you can simply create a donate to use type system.

$20
$30
$40
$50
$100
$200

I expect you to say users will pay the least amount but... $20x6 is better than that one generous $100.

Let the user decide what they are willing to pay.

We ran into a issue like the above in my current work, OK the cost was hitting £20k but we contacted local companies who we thought it would be of use to and after 6 months we took a total of £27k, £7000 in profit.

We gave £1000 to our local charity and the other £6000 was placed into a kitty for later dev/update costs.

Kind Regards
Alex

Hey there Alex,

I think you are misunderstanding the situation here.

When I started to promote this idea (and I did so on numerous forums including Joomla, Stackidea and Yootheme), I made it clear that I had no intention of selling this app, thus why I am not asking for a price in my previous post.

Basically, I presented a project/idea saying : "here is how much it will cost me to develop that idea, who wants to join and share the cost". Chris decided to join in and after waiting several weeks and seeing that no one else was willing to join, we decided to go forward with the development of the ES app.

Now the app is created and the developer behind it as been paid. So if you or any one in this community as an interest in using this app, it's quite easy, you can pay Chris and myself your part of the cost of development and we will send you the app. If we get enough people willing to pay their fair share of the app, then we might make it public and free. It's up to this community to express their interest towards it.

Otherwise, Chris and I, had in mind to setup a website to sell the app if we really had nobody wanting to split the original cost with us. But we don't have a timeline for it and it's not a priority for me right now.

Hope that clarify the situation for you! Take care and let us know if you have an interest in the app.

B.

PS : It's a community project, not a company thing. No updates or additional features neither, the app comes as it is.

Ohh my, this is exciting. I am a huuge fan of Zoo, but stopped using it long ago because they never integrated it with JomSocial. Now I am strongly considering Zoo again.

I have a few questions....

Will the cookbook and blog feature be integrated, so far I see a real emphasis on the products part.

Also, when you post a blog or a recipe, will it show up in the stream as: Jannik Laursen posted a new recipe: chocolate brandy extravaganza?

Who will maintain this after launch? Will this be maintained by the Stackideas team, or by you Benoit?

Are you guys in talks with TechJoomla to get zoo support in their upcoming iOS and Android app?

Any chance of including a like button in blog articles, recipes, products etc. which show up in the stream? (That feature alone would probably impulse me lol)

How far are you guys in development, when can we expect to see it out?

In terms of multilingual users, will the language strings be included in EasySocial? or are we on our own trying to get translations?

I am seriously considering contributing, but I would like to know a little bit more about the plan.

Cannot find the words to express my disappointment, by mid aug i would have released my project and found a work around but do let me know when it's available as this sort of add-on it essential to anyone hoping to run a serious ZOO/EasySocial environment.

Hi Mark. How to say... He has a web address, but he uses this address as a test platform for different sites. Today u can see one site, tomorrow it can be another site) but in short, there is no web-place where he sells this app.

Ive spoken to him by email. He sells this app. He sent me a guide "how to install" - installs as usual.
There is one thing - it is possible to use just 1 Zoo-App. Here is the answer why
Currently can’t show multi zoo apps (can’t support this, because each zoo app each layout …)

It is possible to buy via PayPal - $59+$4.4 (PayPal fees).

Hey guys, just wanted to add something here.

Han is a developer at first, not a business man. I've work with him multiple time for custom work and he as delivered the job very well.

I decided to give him the extension we build together so he can make a bit of money with them and I know he still plan on investing some time to build a website.

Sorry if the first experience seems awkward and strange, but the extension is worth the money and Han will help you if there is any problem.

Have a go, you won't regret it, just remember that he his not a business man and that the extension is a custom work, not a full ready-to-sell extension.

That said, I would love to see Mark work with him to make it more stable and integrate notification and point like Mark said he would do last year :P

One day maybe Mark? It's a great extension, but your knowledge of ES would make it even better.

Hi guys, I can confirm that you are able to buy this app. You need to send email to the author to htrxuan@gmail.com (his name is Han) saying you want to buy this app. He sends you a guide how to install and setup this app. If you agree to proceed further, you will get PayPal invoice for $65. Once it is paid you get 2 packages to install (one via Extension Manager, another via EasySocial).
Again want to mention, that it is possible to connect this app just to 1 Zoo-App.

I have not tested yet this app
