Hi everyone. I'm really liking EasySocial so far. Just one thing that is missing for me, and I was wondering if you can help. Is there a way to set up a search for users ages? Beyond that, is an age range search possible? I know about the Birthday field, but this will require end users to do math before searching to figure out the birth years of specific ages. Not hard to do, but not very user friendly either. Being that the actual age output displays in the profile, can I create a field that would accept that age value output, which I could then make searchable?
Hi Greg,

I am sorry for the delay of this reply.

I am sorry but currently EasySocial doesn't support 'number' field. Meaning to say, creating an 'age' field ( which is a text field type ) will not help on your case

Thanks for the reply.
To get around this, I have used a drop down with a number of pre-determined age range choices for the user to put themselves into.
This is a great piece of software that you guys have created, but I need to join some other users here in saying that the searching features does need a bit of work. It is very good for precise searching, but not so great for random searching. It also falls short if and when a user mis-spells a word when searching, or if a user mis-spells a word when completing a text field within their own profile, which can happen quite frequently.
Sorry if it sounds like I'm coming down on you guys, but I feel this issue is important, and hopefully you'll consider it in future releases.

I'm with Greg that some day there should be a way to do this. This is one reason I earlier proposed a way to display on the profile a users age rather than their birthday (even without the search aspect I still want that). CommunityBuilder can both display one's age and search between age values. I know we don't want to be copy cats of CB, but there are basic needs that ES should eventually have.

Hi Greg and Josh,

Thanks for the heads up on this one and yes, we will see what we can do to address this issue. Most probably by introducing a new integer field but i not sure if this make sense to have both birthday field and age field in one profile type Lets see what we can do about this one

Thanks again for the feedback and the suggestion
Have a nice day

Sam is right that it should be centralized. How it needs to operate is for it to calculate ones age based on the current date minus their birthday and then purely count the number of years (rounding down). Once we have that value, from there the search would need to be able to search for those values of a user.

Another reason you don't want users to manually put in their age is because it's dynamic in the sense that it changes.

There is a Plugin for Jomsocial called Dating Search, you could create something similar to Easysocial

I'm sure that works for sure. However it would be much more in EasySocial's flavor to use a advanced predefined search. No plugin would need to be created and we can have the search criteria we would want.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the heads up on this one. We will look into this advanced search feature again in 1.4 ( or maybe 1.3 if we still have enough time slot )
Thanks for all the feedback and suggestion

Have a nice day
