Hey guy's I'd like to go ahead and start the questions about EasySocial 2.0!

Because of the comments here: http://stackideas.com/blog/osmap-plugin-for-easyblog-now-available-for-download I am lead to believe that development may have already began but probably just planning. So, that leads me to my question. Voices has become a platform for us users to let you know what we want to see, this is fine and dandy but with the announcement of EasySocial going from 1.4 - 2.0 and skipping versions 1.5 - 1.9 this opens the question about the voices items that have been accepted for versions 1.5 - 1.9 and even the inclusion of items marked for 2.0.

Here is the list of currently accepted additions from 1.4 - 2.0 and two for 3.0: http://stackideas.com/voices/easysocial/accepted.

So, do we have an idea of what to expect with EasySocial 2.0 and if you have a roadmap or feature list is it open for discussion and review?

Last question, I want to say I remember seeing a post that made mention of more timely "major" releases. I believe it was said that these would be scheduled for every 3 months. Is this still the case?

Thanks,
James
Subscribed. The major version change allows Stackideas to make major revamps to the JavaScript methods and much more. As I understand it this will break backwards compatibility with older apps/plugins. Think of it as a way of saying "alright everyone, time to update your extensions to work with the big release". It makes it obvious to developers. Plus we can expect some cool changes aside from the nerdy stuff.

Hey James,

I am sorry for the delay of my reply, have been really occupied with the new forums and also a couple of events that I had to personally attend to. During these times, I might have missed the original question altogether.

We don't have an "exact timeframe" yet but works are already underway for EasySocial 2.0. Having said that, there are only so much we can add in 2.0 due to the time constraints and we are discussing internally on which of the key features / implementation that we should be adding in 2.0

There are quite a number of major features which we have been debating internally a lot. One of it, is our own chatting engine for EasySocial and the complete removal of Foundry + bootstrap altogether. Foundry was created to solve our inter-component integrations but it seems to not be serving us correctly due to the fact that we have to run a separate foundry version for each of our own extension. The removal of foundry will definitely be something to look forward to because that will reduce the file size of the scripts included in EasySocial.

Apart from those, the other most debated feature that we have internally is the intelligent custom fields and also the ability to provide site owners more information about the users on the site as mentioned on http://stackideas.com/forums/data,-data-and-data

Having said that, I really do not want to put ourselves in a position where we try to do too many features in each major release which eventually delays the release.

I'm assuming that it's a debate between pages and chat? Even the lesser of the two would be used a lot by most ES users. I also really like the idea of making the scripting end of ES lighter. Power is nice, but there is certainly something to be said about lightweight. I have no problem having Bootstrap scripting removed. I'm assuming the Bootstrap classes would still be used? Or would the layout be completely rewritten?

My picks:

1. Integration with all the popular Cloud services such as Box and Google or Microsoft Cloud offerings. That way the content can be easily accessed in all product extensions, and it serves to draw new types of users, where they want to store their content data outside the public social networks such as Facecrap.

2. Ability to include an image, Album or video with Polls.

3. Add polls fo videos, so polls can be created to drive more interactivity and feedback discussions that poll question can encourage.

4. I'm all for more data on the statistical data on the users. Anytime this can be bolstered, it makes Easysocial more resourceful and powerful to build successful networks.

Some additions to the Tasks app.

Look forward to being able to test this time around.

Been very busy on business development, researching other extensions, and projects that leverage the great extensions from the best Joomla developers on the pkanet.

i believe DATA is what differentiate professionals social network from others, the users tell us what they are/want/do in their profiles and with data analytics we can focus on what they are lloking for when they join our websites.

Hi Mark,

Can you please add pagination to the list? K2 app (and possibly other apps) give us the ability to limit number of articles shown on the profile but does not give the option to go to next set of articles that are set in the limit. In other words one cannot scroll all the articles posted by a user in their profile.

Thanks

I can no longer hold back from making a voice page for pagination. This is an essential feature for apps. Everyone who loves pagination should show their support. This feature has been on my mind for 2 years. I've held off out of respect of not overwhelming the Stackideas team. I figured voicing it in this case is appropriate considering that it not only benefits everyone (quiet literally), but also seems to be less work than other requests.

So, the answer to the original question here is No then ? This voice below was accepted quite some time back and something I have been waiting on. It is supposed to materialize in 2.0 so can somebody confirm whether this will happen ?

Totally agreed re: the need for route maps rather than one single location.

I had similar up on Voices... but it seems to have vanished

Unfortunately, we can't give hard update on the release date of EasySocial as we are in the middle of polishing EasyDiscuss 4. Furthermore, an update to EasySocial is planned to be released soon, but it is prioritized to handle the compatibility issues with Joomla 3.5 and PHP7. The feature requests will have to be implemented on later version

But rest assured, we are aiming to do EasySocial next once we are satisfied with EasyDiscuss .

Mark,

Of all the features that can be added to enhance EasySocial, implementing a subscription/payment membership feature is most desired feature. It will set EasySocial up for a HUGE increase in new extension subscribers because administrators need to find ways to monetize their sites.

Implementation of a subscription/payment membership feature would allow for charging for Events, Digital File Downloads in Groups etc.

Charging for Events in ES like what can be done with Eventbrite is a perfect example of what could be achieved with payment features in ES 2.0.

I just hope new features don't take over from improving what we have. Some very important user experience improvements, cosmetic and otherwise... eg as simple as sticking to the 'Easy' in 'EasySocial' and having info and timeline on the same page and not having to see and click the link to find info which most users totally miss.

I'm not against the new things - but best to build up from perfection rather than build up from imperfection. That way the building stays strong!

Thanks for the input on this guys. Improvising on the usability is a must have for EasySocial 2.0 but we need to do this really carefully to avoid users who have template modifications having have to re-work on their customizations.

Still waiting on a response to this. Everything I have been waiting on was agreed to, accepted and vanished suddenly. I don't have much faith in the feature voices system to be honest.

I had to recreate this one after it vanished recently but has no where near the voices it once had...Also, what happened to the 'Accepted' Extended Photo Details voice....that one vanished way before the Voices system broke, was simply removed....Hardly democratic ?

Regards,

Dave

I can guarantee you that we never removed / will remove any items posted on the voices page unless it is a spam or it is not a feature request.

There was a bug in our voices system which led to these items being removed by search engine's crawlers. We are suspecting that there were some hidden links in the page that led to this.

I am trying to locate for backups of the most recent items but right now it's a little difficult to merge the previous items back in because of the ID discrepancies. Therefore I am requesting everyone to re-post their items on the voices page . I am also closely monitoring the voices as we're picking up those items for EasySocial 2.0

Hey StackIdeas Team, its been a while since I first post this thread and I wanted to follow up and see where we stand in regards to EasySocial 2.0? With the release of EasyDiscuss it has been mentioned previously that efforts will be focused on EasySocial. There have been a few hints dropped here and there about rumored features we can expect to see in the up coming release.

Can you provide some details about what is planned? Has any work been done with EasySocial 2.0 or will work begin shortly?

Thanks,
James

Hi Mark,

I don't know if you guys thought of adding API to calendar/event or any other feature to extend functionalities so developers can create plugins. For example, in events if StackIdeas don't plan to add paid event registrations then at least an API to extend and add that functionality as an add-on/plugin.

Thanks,

Jackson

I have couple of suggestions. Not sure whether this makes sense for others or not. but I believe it is.

Based on Profile type Admin should be able to allow which filed is visible to public or other Profile type user.
At the same time User should have control on which informaiton he would others to see.

Mark,

Prasad's has offered up an excellent idea that will vastly improve Profile Types and the selection of Profile types when a user first registers for the site.

The ability to have certain Profile Types hidden at Registration and reserved for an Upgrade or a path to move up to based on time passed as a member, or points achieved would give the Administrator so much more flexibility.

A couple of scenarios would be as such:

1. At Registration, having a Level One Profile Type. There would be levels that can be achieved after a period of time ex: 6 months or collection of a number of points, then the User will gain a certification to Level 2, then Level 3, etc.

2. Having a Moderator Profile Type, whereby this Profile Type is designated SPECIAL STATUS by the Administrator, and this would be invisible or not available to be selected at Registration, but would be only available by the Administrator giving a user this Profile Type Status.

As for your signature "When the brain is blank - the mind is blind", this is why I've been on the down low. Finally made a huge break through recently (head aches have eased) and am hoping to make a big come back to the Stackideas community coming up. ES 2.0 is going to be so cool.

Hello Vaggelis,

I would suggest that you try this on a staging site instead of applying it directly on your live site Read more about the alpha release here, http://stackideas.com/blog/easysocial-2-0-alpha-available-now
