Hi there,

I hope its ok to start a new thread on this. Something similar was posted a view years ago ( http://stackideas.com/forums/easydiscuss-rss-shows-html-tags ).

On the delivered Link you can see that HTML declanations like - <br /> - are showing inside the RSS-Feed. The attached file on the other posting looks a little bit outdated. Do you need login information or can you provide another file?

Cheers and thanks in front of all efforts,
Steve
Hello Steve,

Is it possible for you to provide us with the back end and FTP access to your site to check on this issue?

Hi Mark,

another problem that still exists. I thought it would be solved when html declinations are published in a correct way.

We put the rss link inside of our newsletter system and every post with an special char insite the title/link (ä,ö,ü or ß) will end up on a 404 page. I made some tests (attached URL) and found out that the rss is not valid. This happens only on special chars.

I tried another newsletter system - mailchimp. And there is a posibility to send only RSS-Letters. After fill in the Feed-URL it shows "is ... is not a valid RSS feed."

Best regards,
Steve

Hi Mark,

sorry, I was ill the since your last reply now my feedback on this.

Everything looks fine. The only thing now is the URL building. Every "read more" like link generated redirect to a "page not found" site.

Here is the wrong linkbuilding:
domainname.de%2fqa%2fnameoftheposting

a correct one would be:
domainnema.de/qa/nameoftheposting

As attachment I'll give you the link to the html view of the newsletter. The english translation for the "read more" is -> "Zum Beitrag »" There you can see what happens.

Thanks again for your engagement on this problem. I hope you'll (or one of your teammates) get it running before christmas : )

Best regards
Steve

Can you please provide us with the back end and FTP access to the site again? We have cleared out all the stored login credentials as outlined on http://stackideas.com/blog/improving-our-sites-security

Hello Steve,

Hm, just tested the RSS feed at https://club.computerwissen.de/qa/index?format=feed&type=rss and the links seems to be correct. Am I missing anything here?

Hi Mark,

yes, this links are correct. But when I put the Feed inside our newsletter tool all of the "reed more" links has now "%2f" as slash inside.

- Here again the wrong linkbuilding:
domainname.de%2fqa%2fnameoftheposting

I'll put the link to our newsletter html-view into the URL field below. The english translation for the "read more" is -> "Zum Beitrag »" - This is where you can see what happens now. The second link is a example reed more link after clicking it.

Regards
Steve

Hi,

I have the same problems with RSS feeds. Can you please either post the complete solution or include the solution in your next update of EasyDiscuss. Right now I have to turn off RSS but I would like to use it later. Also, let us know when you plan on rolling out the next EasyDiscuss update.

Hi Nik,

I uploaded your file and it completely destroys my website when I click on the Subscribe Rss button. So I disabled RSS in backend.

Hi to you all,

sorry Arlex but it still did not work.

Short summary:
- HMTL was showing inside the published Feed - Checked and works
- Feeds with special chars (ä,ö,ü or ß) in link does not work - Checked and works
- Feed was not valide - Checked and works
- Reed more Links in feed works but inside a Newsletter - Did not work

@Rene
I attached my (from Mark and Arlex modified) view.feed.php maybe you can work with it for normal feed-publishing. The only problem is now, that the feed was not accepted from mailchimp and on our own newslettersystem the "reed more" displays "%2f" instead of "/" (slash).

Thanks again in front of all efforts,
Steve

Hi Steve,

Sorry your modifications did not work. I am still getting the "white screen of death." For now I will turn off RSS. The RSS for EasySocial and EasyBlog works well.

Hello Steve,

Those hyperlinks are being (I believe) urlencoded by the system that you use. If you try to render the feed at https://club.computerwissen.de/qa/index?format=feed&type=rss using Firefox or any other feed readers, can you see if those URLs work?

The question would most likely be, does mailchimp support unicode urls?

Hi Mark,

maybe we lost in a detail here. You are taking the main feed https://club.computerwissen.de/qa/index?format=feed&type=rss but we want to separate the feeds in our newsletter and take only some of the categories like https://club.computerwissen.de/qa/categories/listings/windows?format=feed (windows categorie) and here your can see, that those links are not working correctly.

I tried the main-feed and this one works inside the newsletter.

Best regards,
Steve

Hi Arlex,

first of all - thank you all for your time that you invest to get this running. "I'm really sorry that delayed of this reply..." thats fully ok, I know that you're team is on stress every day : )

Now its the same as on beginning - specialchar links didn't work:

Here is the link to newsletter-preview - Here

First (works not) - I put in 2 categories:
https://club.computerwissen.de/qa/categories/listings/internet-social-media?format=feed&type=rss
https://club.computerwissen.de/qa/categories/listings/pc-hardware?format=feed&type=rss

- 1. Categorie-Article is "Trojaner"
- 2. Categorie-Article is "Paralleler Druckeranschluss LPT1 im Geräte-Manager nicht sichtbar" <- Specialchar "ä"

Second (works) - I Put in a complete different blog feed from another site "Kommentar zu Neue Templates für goneo easyPage von Markus Käkenmeister" <- Specialchar "ä"

The read more link is (German) "Zum Beitrag »"

>> After this I'll checked if the RSS is valid: W3

>> Mail-Chimp is still writing "...is not a valid RSS feed."

>> Additionally I bought an own newsletter marketing application and there it will running:
http://newsletter.business/index.php/campaigns/aw628oyewh18b/web-version/sk203mdnake5d

Problem is, that I have to use the newsletter application with the "mailer-service.com" link. Mailchimp and my own one (newsletter.business) are only for tring this.

Sorry when this is getting a little bit mixed up, I'll try my best to describe it understandable.

But now -> Its christmas time for all : )

I whish you all a happy and healthy chrismas with family and friends,
Steve

Hello Steve Kraft,

Sorry for late reply to this,

You're welcome, it okay, we also late reply to you. Please find your answer in your queries below.
#1. First (works not) - I put in 2 categories:
https://club.computerwissen.de/qa/categories/listings/internet-social-media?format=feed&type=rss
https://club.computerwissen.de/qa/categories/listings/pc-hardware?format=feed&type=rss

- 1. Categorie-Article is "Trojaner"
- 2. Categorie-Article is "Paralleler Druckeranschluss LPT1 im Geräte-Manager nicht sichtbar" <- Specialchar "ä"

>> I have checked in this article URL link -> https://club.computerwissen.de/qa/trojaner
>> It look like that URL link also do not have show "ä" , so that it will not show in your RSS feed.

Mailchimp and my own one (newsletter.business) are only for tring this
.

>> Yes, I'm not very clear about your second question.
>> may i know which read more link are you mentioned? Perhaps you provide some screenshot which are you referring to so that we can take a look of this?
