Getting this when validating one of our rss feeds: Your feed appears to be encoded as "UTF-8", but your server is reporting "US-ASCII"

I have been in contact with the ShoutEm support

The reply from them: I went over the feed, and the feed seems to have a few issues that need to be rectified. Even though you can open it in the browser and check the code, it doesn’t have to mean that it’s working properly.

For the XML declaration part, can you try setting the versions under the quotation marks, like this :

<?xml version=“1.0” encoding=“UTF-8”?>

Same goes for the RSS declaration as well.

This needs to be changed within the service that controls your RSS feed generation. You’re probably using some kind of web script that is doing this for your web, and you’ll need to change this within the same.

If you could redo the feed according to the notices here : http://validator.w3.org/feed/check.cgi?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.queertownabbey.com%2Fentertainment%2Fmusic%3Fformat%3Dfeed%26type%3Drss

Sorry

This feed does not validate.

line 1, column 14: XML parsing error: <unknown>:1:14: XML declaration not well-formed [help]

<?xml version=1.0 encoding=utf-8 ?>
^

In addition, interoperability with the widest range of feed readers could be improved by implementing the following recommendations.

Feeds should not be served with the "text/html" media type

Your feed appears to be encoded as "UTF-8", but your server is reporting "US-ASCII"

I would appreciate any help I can get here since I have no idea how to solve this.

Thanks in advance!

Anders
Hello Anders,

I'm sorry for the late reply. May I know which URL that has the error when you validate it?

Thanks for the reply Nick.

The feed url is http://www.queertownabbey.com/entertainment/music?format=feed&type=rss

The feed is working properly in the browser but not in our mobile app.

I'm not sure if you will be able to test this with our mobile app but sending the link https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=hr.apps.n164863156

Hello Anders,

Have you try with non-SEF URL instead: http://www.queertownabbey.com/index.php?option=com_easyblog&view=latest&format=feed&type=rss because I've tried using non-sef to get the feed in Feedly Android app and I can view the post: http://screen.stackideas.com/2015-01-29_1709.png

Our mobile app is not importing that feed url either.

I'm suspecting it must be something wrong from ShoutEm' side now.

Hello Anders,

If your mobile app did not importing it, you might want to check the app instead.

Hello Nick,

Seems that I have the same problem as this topic http://stackideas.com/forums/easyblog-feed-importer

We're also using Incapsula and it seems that Incapsula is blocking the RSS feeds.

Request unsuccessful. Incapsula incident ID: 210000550067728004-200672043292820341

I need to white list something but what?

Hello Anders,

I'm sorry but is this different issue with the one you were reporting before? Because the issue in that topic is Feed Importer which means, he has the issue to import feed from other site into Easyblog using EasyBlog Feed Importer. And if I understand correctly, your issue here is you can't get the RSS from Easyblog into your mobile app.

What I meant to write Nick was a similar problem.

Our mobile app can't import EasyBlog RSS feeds and this seems to be caused by the Incapsula Firewall.

ShoutEm can't find anyting wrong in their systems.

Best regards,
Anders

Hello Anders,

Ah, I see. You suspect that the Incapsula has blocked your mobile app from importing the feeds, yes? If so, I'm not sure what the user has white listed in the Incapsula because as you can see, he just mentioned it works.

Hello Anders,

I'm a bit lost here. You mean RSS feed Easyblog was classified as Bot by Incapsula?

Hello Nick,

Yes the RSS feed Easyblog was classified as Bot by Incapsula.

We have disabled the Incapsula service and now the rss feeds are showing up properly in our mobile app.
