The StackIdeas Team has been working long hard hours on EasySocial, and this discussion is intended to trigger ideas and features most important to those who have a site that focuses on EasyBlog.

It is my understanding from previous discussions that the feature plans for EasyBlog will focus more on the following:

1. EasyBlog 4.0 iwill be more focused on visual improvements and features in modules and less on new features to the Blog creation,

2. EasyBlog Module Improvements

3. How EasyBlog blog articles gets displayed in Featured Blogs and FrontPage view.

I have been looking for a module that displays Front Page News like a newspaper site but none of the modules I found work with EasyBlog.

RAXO All-Mode Pro does exactly what I want but it only works with standard Joomla articles.

I hope more emphasis is placed on making EasyBlog 4.0 to have more visually appealing content display.

Blogger list page needs flexibility. Perhaps an image wall (with blogger profile images) with different types of transitions as a view option instead of the standard blogger list page.

Also allow for social media links (by icon graphics or text) under each persons profile. These links would like to the bloggers social fan pages. Similar to the way the twitter links work. It should be simple to style the graphic/links with CSS.

This is more of a question than request... is it possible for the wysiwyg editor to auto remove formatting when someone pastes their text into the editor from a different source. Within my community blog people are posting text that is formatted and do not realize they need to go through and remove formatting within the editor.

Also some nice features would be to allow a users' average ratings on blog posts to be factored in to AUP and to allow the user to customize the points given for certain criteria

I think Randall is absolutely right about module options. I will say, though, that we're using a Rockettheme template with Roksprocket modules and it makes it very easy to feed in Easyblog posts and make them different types of modules. (*except that embedded videos don't process correctly if above the "read more" line)

I would say a near-deal-breaker as I train users is the media manager's inability to move folders once they are created. On top of that, there is no way to sort the folders, so if you have a really old folder, you can collapse it (irritating that there is only one level of "collapse" handles too) ,but you can't sort alphabetically, for example.

Hey Randall,

Check out Rocket Theme they have a module called "RokSprocket" that may be of interest to you. This allows you to set up EasyBlogs in a few pretty nifty layouts, one being "Mosaic" which I use on my site.

Here it is in action:
http://screencast-o-matic.com/watch/c2f3oknUtC

You can select whichever blogs you'd like also. Not just Featured.

Thank you Sean,

I use a Rockettheme template Anacron and have baddled a bit with modifying the preinstalled RokSprocket module. Is there some tutorial guides available to nest Easyblog blog posts into RokSprocket?

I like what you have done on your site. It's what I would like to do on my own site.

Sure thing,

I followed this tutorial:
http://www.rockettheme.com/docs/joomla/templates/leviathan/demo_module_4.md

I'd imagine it'd be the same with your template.

Basically just create a new module, select RokSprocket Module...then it's pretty much as easy as following the on-screen instructions they provide with the mod.

If you're still confused, let me know I'll create a screen-cast tutorial myself for you.

Sean,

I must say, the demo tutorial at RT is very sparse for information. For the life of me I must be missing something. I cannot find how to input articles into the RokSprocket module. Is see in the demo there is a screenshot that shows: Choose your content Provider and Layout. But I can't seem to locate this in the module settings to see where I select or add EasyBlog blog articles.

Any assistance appreciated.

UPDATED - I found that I have to create a New Module to select EasyBlog in RokSprocket.

This feature is a HUGE Feature Request for WordPress 3.9 and should be for EasyBlog 4.0

Built-in Support for Pasting directly from Microsoft Word

If you have a site that has many Bloggers, a common support question will be: Can I paste from Word into my EasyBlog editor to create a Blog post?

WordPress 3.9, removes the “paste from word” button entirely. It includes TinyMCE 4.0 and has better built-in support for pasting in blocks of text for Microsoft Word. The better your software gets, the more the magic happens behind the scenes. WordPress now detects if the pasted text is coming from MS Word and makes the appropriate changes. http://wptavern.com/wordpress-3-9-has-built-in-support-for-pasting-from-microsoft-word

Hello Randall,

EasyBlog does not include it's own editor and Joomla is using TINMYCE We're planning to do this in EasyBlog 4.0 where we'll package it with our own editor.

Mark,

This is EXCELLENT NEWS. This will make it so much easier as EasyBlog enabled Site Admins won't have to educate Bloggers about pasting MS Word content in the EasyBlog Blog posts. A huge reduction in support questions.

We need the Mailchimp integration fully realized. Definitely the ability to send out to subscribers when a new post is created but also a nice feature would be to be able to setup a weekly/bi-weekly/monthly feature to send them out. Sort of like how ostraining sends out their blog posts. You could specify the period and then Easyblog would send to mailchimp all the blog posts that were created during that time.

Hello Justin,

This is actually already possible with EasyBlog, you just need to enable the option to create the campaign automatically when a new blog post is created.

Personally the two things I want to see is a much more modern fully responsive frontpage with multiple columns. It would be great with a pinterest style front page, and a blog style frontpage with 2 or 3 column options as well. Example: I would like my frontpage to look like pinterest, but I would like to have a developer blog to have two or three columns.

Additionally, better modules. It would be great to have a module that looks almost like the front page layout. That way I can have EasySocial frontpage and EasyBlog frontpage at the same time as my frontpage.

Lannik,

This is the most important thing for me. Sometimes you have to weigh the new blogging features versus cosmetics, and look and feel News Page functionality. I would like to see the EB modules updated a lot, and the FrontPage page display options and ideas you have will make 4.0 a must have upgrade.

I look forward to learning more about EB 4.0

All threads I've seen say that that was a feature to be added in 4.0 and that the create campaign button doesn't actually do anything yet. I've checked everything with Mailchimp and I can verify Easyblog is NOT creating new campaigns. Is this feature added and not working?

Ignore me, Mark. It looks like there was just a delay. All worked as it should. However it would be nice in 4.0 to be able to choose the re-occurrence (immediately, daily, weekly, bi-monthly, monthly, etc...) that the campaigns are generated and choose which Mailchimp template to use.

FEATURE REQUEST FOR EASYBLOG 4 - EASYPHOTO QUOTE GENERATOR IN EASYBLOG 4

With EasySocial having creation of photo albums and Sharing to popular networks and with Easyblog having a Quick Share Story, it would be awesome to evolve the EasyBlog Quote feature to allow for EasyPhoto Quotes.

Take a look at http://quozio.com/ a simple photo quote generator. Add similar or improved features into EasyBlog Quick Story Quote. call it EasyPhoto Quote. This allows people to do more with their Photo Albums.

This is my painfully slow mockup of some of the user interface. Im right handed and mocked this up tonight with my left hand. Bad wing is slowing me down which is probably a good thing.

The photos would come from EasySocial Photo Albums if EB and ES are used together. otherwise, a series of photos need to be selected to chose from in EB.

Some possibilities to add to the EB 4 editor.

http://circletype.labwire.ca/

Circletype.js is a tiny (2.7kb) jQuery plugin that lets you set type on a circle

FEATURES
Use any font
Adjust letter-spacing as usual with CSS
Flip it around so it reads counter-clockwise instead
Set the radius manually or let CircleType.js figure it out for you
Works in fluid and responsive layouts
Plays well with FitText.js

that's a realy good idea Mark and if you have more time on weekend then you should take a longer look on the following blog App: https://itunes.apple.com/de/app/off-exploring-travel-blog/id373984511?mt=8
That is realy the easiest way how blogging with a mobile App works! i wished that my Dream of a similar App for "easyblog" come true...sometimes!

hello,

i also personally believe that a simple ways of sharing is the key to generate or increase participation

easyblog is not so difficult but in few month (now maybe years) we have seen many improvements everywhere (thanks to the apps and mobile)... and easyblog have to propose more simpler ways of sharing in may opinion

i also wondering how to manage the "easyblog quick post" and the "easysocial share"... more or less the same
in other words : do i have to continue using "easyblog quick post" (and only use easyblog post) if i have easysocial installed ??

what is your opinion on that ?

Hi Mark, is there a rough estimation on when we might expect EB4 ? I know this is not rocket science. However, I'm working on the new version of my site and I'm wondering should I wait for migrating or not. So ,is this a matter of days, weeks or months? Should we expect it around june or september?

Hello Sebastien,

If you ask me, I would strongly advise you to wait for it. The new composer we are working on is definitely going to have you drop the old EasyBlog altogether As for when it would be available, I really can't give you an exact timeframe right now.

However, you can still run EasyBlog on your site because our update process should be seamless.

I'm hoping the suggestion I made along time ago is included.

Please allow the administrator to assign a blogger to a certain category (or group of categories if you prefer.) So they don't need to select a category every time they post (which is often forgotten and then the path is wrong and has to be fix by the administrator.)

You all have already said that would be included, I'm just checking since it's been over a year since it was confirmed.

the addition of BB style codes and better media management and display..

kind off a cross between Facebook Album wise a BB forum, the bits i'm personally missing are:

1) ability to collapse sections of articles (normally called a spoiler function, no idea why)

Warning: Spoiler Alert!
[Toggle message]

blah blah blah

2) the ability to display formatted code in a code box
 blah blah blah
, i can see easyblog does kind of do this, so maybe there some settings I am missing?
3) the ability to add and display albums (much like facebook) and easysocial (I brought both, but little or no cross over and certainly not transparently)
4) dedicated Front end editor, that allows transparent integration between the stackideas portfolio of applications, at least for the same class, e.g. easyblog, easysocial etc.

I use easyblog as a technical blog or am trying to, while i really love the support its really A+, I am finding easyblog less than suitable for technical blogging, but i do want to support their product because of the support they give.

That been said I may have to move myself to another blogging platform, in every other respect it a very good blogging platform.
