Easy Discuss - Presales questions
-
Hello
I'm currently working on an idea for a site and have been looking for a component which will do what I'm trying to achieve. I'm pretty sure that Easy Discuss is that component, but I need to check a few things please (and apologies in advance if these are stupid questions!):
1 - Is there a list of modules that come as part of the package (ie top rated, most popular, latest etc)
2 - What is the schedule for the release of 2.x (full release) and what version of Joomla will it support? With J2.5 coming out in a couple of days I was looking at long term options.
3 - The main thing I want is for people to be able to post questions, comment etc. using social media (specifically twitter and facebook) logins, rather than just using joomla registration (not least because I don't want the added expense of some thing like community builder to manage the users at this stage). I see you list twitter as an option to do this, but would I be able to achieve this using some kind of facebook integration? Do you have a particular one that you'd recommend? (http://www.sourcecoast.com/jfbconnect/ for example?) The social media integration of the site is the key thing for the whole idea, so I need to know this will work ok.
4 - Is the (pro) license limited to one domain, or does that enable me to use it on more than one site.
5 - Lastly, why did I only discover this software after your 30% Christmas sale ended?! lol. (Do you do discounts often)?
Many thanks for your help
David

Hey David,
Thanks for your interest in EasyDiscuss! Kindly please find the answers to your inquiries below,
1 - Is there a list of modules that come as part of the package (ie top rated, most popular, latest etc)
Yes, you can actually download these modules from http://stackideas.com/account/free-download.html
2 - What is the schedule for the release of 2.x (full release) and what version of Joomla will it support? With J2.5 coming out in a couple of days I was looking at long term options.
We're planning to release EasyDiscuss 2.0 somewhere next week and it will actually support all 4 versions, Joomla 1.5, Joomla 1.6, Joomla 1.7 and Joomla 2.5
3 - The main thing I want is for people to be able to post questions, comment etc. using social media (specifically twitter and facebook) logins, rather than just using joomla registration (not least because I don't want the added expense of some thing like community builder to manage the users at this stage). If JFBConnect supports user registrations via Facebook in Joomla and uses the standard Joomla user API, it shouldn't be a problem since EasyDiscuss actually just uses the existing users that Joomla has (This also includes those LDAP authenticated clients just as long as the user is registered in Joomla)
4 - Is the (pro) license limited to one domain, or does that enable me to use it on more than one site.
The (Pro) license only restricts the support for one domain, you can actually install it on as many sites as you want. If you require support for the rest of your sites, perhaps you might consider getting the Unlimited version instead which is at $159.
5 - Lastly, why did I only discover this software after your 30% Christmas sale ended?! lol. (Do you do discounts often)?
Haha, sorry
I wished you could have seen this earlier. We normally throw in discounts during seasonal celebrations and it really depends on the occasion at times
Hope this helps and looking forward to have you on board with us soon!

Thanks for the reply, really helpful.
Can you just clarify something on point 3 please? You said:

Now I have to admit that Joomla API is on the limits of my knowledge field (ie I need to learn a lot more!) Are you saying that as long as whichever FB intergration component I use uses standard API, users will be able to login the site (sign in with facebook) and use the easy discuss (providing I have ACL set up correctly) without having register through Joomla?
Apologies if this is a stupid question!

Hey David,
Sorry for the confusions. What I was actually referring to is that, if the Facebook component that you are planning to use (JFBConnect) is synchronizing the users that are signing on with Facebook with Joomla, then, everything will be taken care off
Since EasyDiscuss only handles the users in Joomla, and I believe JFBConnect actually creates / synchronizes the necessary Facebook user in Joomla

Ok, finally ready to get this project going - and it will be with easy discuss! Just one more (potentially unrelated) thing:
I run another forum which is currently a standard, non-modded phpbb3 board (self hosted/installed). Is there an easy route to migrate this to easy discuss (within a joomla install obviously)?
Thanks

Hello Eric,
There's actually a bug which we are working on internally. If you need us to perform the migration for you, can you please create a ticket at https://crm.stackideas.com ?
