Anyone use Joocial Extly? It offers community members the ability to create social channels over which they can manage re-posting of the content they generate, at the component level, either in EasySocial or a large number of other Joomla components. They have a listing in Apps and you can read their product feature page here and product info page here. The new extension is only recently added and only two reviews at Joomla here.

Does anyone have first-hand experience or comparison to Techjoomla's Broadcast listed here?
Hello Eileen,

I have never personally tried this but I believe it should work fine with EasySocial Since it is a paid product, if you are experiencing issues, you could always submit a support ticket with them

Hi Eileen

I can not say that I have but I think that I am trying to get something similar to work.
i.e. http://techjoomla.com/products/broadcast
This should push stuff to Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin and at some point Google Plus. Also pull and push RSS feeds. If I understand things correctly that is kind of the same ball court?

I have been having difficulty getting “broadcast” to work and frankly Support has been less than stellar. There is documentation but I find it sloppy and badly written. In all fairness I am supposed to be Skyping with Parth the guy who runs Techjoomla with a view to finding a solution. So maybe I will have this up and running by the end of the week. I so want Techjoomla products to work for me. Fingers crossed.

I skimmed the presentation here:
https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1JWIPbcSl8A3nnt_oCgK3DRZpoOTGeFFaobqzdtIDxWY/edit#slide=id.gf6855808_075

And it certainly seems really comprehensive! I am not sure if automatically reposting Blog posts is all that interesting for me. For the simple reason that in the world of video editing I do not see any one else reposting stuff on a regular basis. I kind of think that it could easily backfire and piss people off.
This might sound a little crazy but I have my sights set squarely on a LMS and I would like to give people who create courses the possibility to promote courses through social channels… So I am sticking my course for the moment but will keep Joocial on my radar…

best

Paul

ps the more I read about it the more it impresses me

- User-Level Social Auto-Posting
- Registered Users can enable their social channels (Facebook Profile, LinkedIn, Twitter)
- All User Activities are published to User Social Channel.
- A site-wide channel works for general auto-posting, publishing as usual to site channels.
- A user channel publishes only to User Profile.
- Open Graph features for Users: Explicit Sharing and User Generated Photo Actions
- All AutoTweetNG plugins work also in the front-end site

Hi Eileen

Did you ever make progress with either of these plugins? I have given up on Broadcast. It is partly due to my impatience. Am wondering about Joocial Extly?

Hi Paul,

To be honest I only spent about half hour or so looking into it and then decided to put it on the end of my "to-do" list because I have other pressing tasks. When it bubbles back up to my active tasks I will also be looking at Broadcast because I'm using a number of their extensions already --- and like you I'm also interested in their LMS (BTW I found this listing of LMS's useful). Back to this topic, do you have a "short-list" of problems or a "heads-up" with Broadcast you could share? Did you get that chance for a chat with Parth?

Hi Eileen

Yes I talked with Parth for about an hour. He is undoubtedly a very nice guy. As I said I gave up partly due to lack of impatience on my part. I bought the component in mid June and to the best of my knowledge there has not been an update since then. I am on version 1.5. and 7 tickets later have made little or no progress. What really spoilt things for me was I asked about getting poster frames to work on social media and was told that there were inconsistent results, depending on post/social media that was being posted too. A month or two later when I asked the same question I was told that poster frames being posted/pushed to Social media is not currently supported. Sorry but all the other kids in the playground have Poster frames for their Social Media posts on FB, Twitter & Linked in. I want them too. Sure maybe something got lost in translation but frankly I am in over my head with respect to this whole web world and the last thing that I need are people who´s support/products are counter productive, to my emmmmmmm workflow! Whatever…

I still dig the idea of having people be able to push to Social media but like you it is not up on the top of my list at present.

Thanks for the list of LMSs but I can not even think about going down that road at the moment… Need to be kind to my grey matter.

Also, I keep coming back to the idea that something like Google hang outs/with payment system and the new events in groups functions implemented (version 1.3.10) in a clever way might just be good enough!

In case you missed it:

http://stackideas.com/blog/group-events-in-easysocial

At the moment I have an eclectic to do list, ranging from formatting Wanderers properly, getting events up and running and trying to figure out the video side of thing :-o

@Paul as always thanks so much for sharing your knowledge I assumed Broadcast would push updates with poster frames as you say since it's common/best practice I'll be asking as well. Meanwhile also on the top of my list is a paid Google Hangouts integration. I always thought integration with social events from within groups would be embraced by my intended users (thanks for the link I hadn't seen the ES 3.10 blog entry yet). FYI for me this would also ideally be supported by Shika in a more formal "learning management" way and I'll be sharing my view of the market during Alpha to help influence a strong LMS with ES integration.

FYI I received a note for free video content, maybe it's useful/interesting to you? I also bumped into an interesting PHP script for sale the other day that has a simple display for videos / playlists.

On lists, my to-dos are too-many I've started using Planbox to keep things straight (free plan). It's a simple agile based task management tool equally good for site Admins and developers. Don't know if you use those types of tools but this one takes entries from bug/feedback systems like Uservoice and Zendesk so it's easy to incorporate customer input into the site/App development whether just for your Website or product.

Hi Eileen

Your link:

http://www.videoblocks.com/?utm_source=103114relaunchsb&utm_medium=internal&utm_campaign=103114relaunchsb

Looks pretty cool. For me personally this probably makes more sense. At least when it comes to templates:

http://www.motionvfx.com/#

But that is because my Effects Program of choice is Apple Motion and not Adobe After Effects. Here is my take on Motion & AE

http://finalbug.net/blog/entry/335-apple-motion-adobe-after-effects

Checked out the php link above. Literally clicked the link and had one of those OMG moments. Definitely making a big mental note of that. Thanks.

I am sure that planbox is great but I am on Projectfork for the simple reason that I hope to see ES integration some day… And want people to be able to work within my finalBUG.net site!

http://projectfork.net/

Please let me know if you make progress with Broadcast. I think something like that is a really important element. I think we will probably end up discussing stuff like this in multiple threads in the future.

I really need to sit down with a very old friend (php guru) of mine who is working on the whole digital side of training for these guys here:

http://www.macmillan.com/

Again and again I have the feeling that all the ingredients are there it is just getting the mix right!!!

Hi Eileen

I can not get that link that you posted out of my head. i.e.
http://www.jodacame.com/demos/yme/
It really seems to be the way to go have a big window populated by video clip thumbnails! Kind of like Pinterest.
Combine this with a kick ass search box which can search for video titles and keywords inside video titles…

Now that could be a killer combination!

My Spanish is none existent but as I said

I really need to sit down with a very old friend (php guru) of mine

He is spanish!!!

Also maybe this is something similar:

http://www.tigracon.com/socialboards-for-jomsocial-easysocial-and-combuilder.html
http://tigracon.com/easysocial/

Apparently it is possible to filter pins or tags!

Not sure what a pin is but I guess it is basically the name of the item that is pinned. Tags could also be way cool! I did business with Tigracon before (bought their Circles component / ended up not using it) and found them to be pretty cool to deal with! Hate to a stickler for detail but I hate their interface but then no one is perfect!

Hey Paul,

About that link, that's what I thought and why I shared it with you, hope SI sees it as well. I think the "why" we keep thinking about it is exactly what we want our users to be doing when at our site using ES. Of course all successful niche sites need members and content, but beyond that, if the site has a UI/UX "hook" that helps connect customer problems to our ES-based solution, it makes using our site a "habit". So in your example, and forgive me if I don't have it exactly right, but I guess you may have a community of video professionals who need to connect, share, and learn all about video production/editing. Now if your site has that, PLUS the UI/UX experience has a great "hook" (i.e. simple pin-like board of video images) that has a useful function (can be sorted) it can create repeated and unprompted user engagement. The idea is that the users need for information or community triggers them to connect to your site, seeing the pin-like board of sorted topics gives them an easy "action" (click) and their "reward" is getting right to the information they were seeking, hopefully prompting them to "invest" time in engaging by commenting, sharing, etc.

I'm interested in learning what comes of your conversation with your friend. You could always open a translation window and just have a text chat that comes really close to real-time translation I've done this with friends from Germany (I'm in US). With practice, you can end up clocking a cut/paste cycle in about 1.5 seconds!

I've seen Tigracon before and also bought one of their theme products before moving to ES (which was about half a year before ES even shipped). Of course as with Video I don't want to be in the position of having site members learn tool X and then roll-out tool Y so I'm patiently waiting a little longer to see where to invest my time and money.

Thanks again for your insights and sharing!

Hey Eileen

We could come out into the open with this you know.
You could copy and paste your original comment from above relating to the PHP thread thing into this thread here:

http://stackideas.com/forums/video-functionality-constructive-discussion

I can copy and paste my response with the Tigracon thing and we can see if we gain some traction!?!

I know where I want to take this..

Have been looking at You Tube Playlists and Sound Cloud functionality. I think what might just light the fire of the SI team would be some kind of Sound Cloud like implementation of Videos & Kommento/Easy Discuss!!! I get it on an abstract level. Almost. It is just boxes inside boxes inside boxes

I am in Germany but original from Ireland. So my response might take 12 hours or so to filter through during the week…

And yes I have HWD on my radar too. Drats!!!

all the best

very interesting says he with a strong German accent

I probably think you need to choose between HWD Videos or EasySocial videos. The problem is that not everyone wants to use an external extension to serve their videos and we cannot be dependent on HWD to serve videos as well.

Your last post really cracks me up You probably didn't know this, but, I gave tin whistle or Irish penny whistle lessons when I was a kid at my Dad's "AOH" hall --- and over the last few years I've been meeting new friends from Germany all the time because I have family here who sponsor German Au Pairs so now I can sort of tick off both the "Irish" and "German" box for you too

Good idea on bumping the other thread, I'll paste it over there...

Hey Eileen

Good for you that you can play the Irish penny whistle.
Visions of River Dance like sequences bubbling through my brain.
Cut to German drinking song!

In a weird kind of way the Irish and German are not a million miles from another

@Paul that's so weird; it really sounds like a bunch of Irish Germans at a pub brings up good memories and latent desire to have Guinness or dare I say Bass ale.
