Hi,

I have an issue where people are seeing EasyDiscuss posts in the ES stream, and commenting there instead of posting replies to the EasyDiscuss thread. This is an intuitive behavior and is not something I want to coach my users to do differently, but this creates problems in that responses are not captured within the thread.

Is there any way to have comments posted show as replies in EasyDiscuss? If not, is this roadmapped for future releases?

If the architecture stays the way it is today, we'll lose a lot of knowledge on the site as people's responses will show only on the post (which over time, will not appear anymore). I suppose this could also be the same for EasyBlog, as well.

Thanks,
Preston
Hello Sabih,

Good news for you. I've added this in our repo. This will be included in the next release of EasyDiscuss App. For now, you can use the attached file and replace it in ../media/com_easysocial/apps/user/discuss/discuss.php.

Hello Preston,

It's actually part of our roadmap for EasyDiscuss app so that when someone leaves a new comment in the stream, it will generate a reply on EasyDiscuss. At this point of time, we don't have this yet though.

This is great news. Will there be perhaps a migrator that we can run to pull over existing comments into the EasyDiscuss app?

We use ED and ES and to sync the replys/comments is the most important feature for us too great to know that it is on the road map

Unfortunately this has not happened for a year now but is there a way to prevent people from commenting at EasyDiscuss app posts at least inside the stream? Though having comments of this app as forum posts would be a much sexier solution.

Anyway, I need a solution for this because I got two different discussions of the same topic at two different places with the comments.

Hello Sabih,

I'm sorry but we are now focusing on Easyblog and Easysocial. We will move to Easydiscuss once we are ready. We have planned to revamp Easydiscuss in the near future.

I am sorry, but my post was no question with a yes/no option. I need a solution for this as you might understand, this is no option having different discussions about the same link at different places. Because I understand that if you missed this point in the past, what you definitey did, you can not repair this within hours. But therefor I offered you to give me a quick hack by removing the comment option for posts made by the easydiscuss app.

You should be aware that I bought the EasyDiscuss app seperately and as producers of a Social platform software you should know that the way it is now, is not usable. Today I got several mails regarding this issue from my members. :/ They all thought that they already answered to a post but used the comments and then they did not understand where their post is gone to...

Hello Sabih,

Sorry for the confusion earlier. Here is the quickhack for the comment in Easydiscuss stream item. Please replace the attached file in: ../media/com_easysocial/apps/user/discuss/discuss.php. Hope this helps.

Thank you Nik, this is a appropriate solution until the posting from comments is done. Can you tell me roundabout how long until posting from stream by comments will work?

Hello Sabih,

I'm sorry for the confusion earlier. Correct me if I'm wrong. Based on your previous reply,
But therefor I offered you to give me a quick hack by removing the comment option for posts made by the easydiscuss app.

The quick hack I have provided is to remove the comment of the stream item when user has posted a discussion.

Additionally:

Post a discussion through Easysocial story panel

Then the description of the app is misleading. It should be called 'create a thread...'

AND: I asked you about how long it might approximately take until the above thing will be implemented and your answer was, that my issue is resolved. :/

I appreciate that hack, it is wonderful and your reaction time was great. But you have to admit, that it is no wonder that I expected posting through stream and I do not have posting throuht. I have create thread but no posting.

I do not want to discuss this nor I want any kind of dispute. So I am fine with this solution at least. I just do not want this to be forgotten for another year...

Hello Sabih,

Ah, I see. Sorry for the confusion. I do see the feature in our tracker. However, I've made a test in my local and so far it is working. You might want to try while waiting for the stable version of this feature. Please replace the attached file in: ../media/com_easysocial/apps/user/discuss/discuss.php . Hope this works.

Hey Nik,

thank you so much for your effort but I have to say, that it does not work for me. I see comments again but posting a comment does not bring up any forum post inside that topic. Did I miss any option?

I uploaded your file again on the page written below. It is a secured backup of my site for testings. Perhaps you can find the error easier this way.

Hello Sabih,

I've checked your site and the comment on Easysocial does get posted in the forum thread:

http://screencast.com/t/9noZmraSYi

Did I miss anything?

No, it is working and you are right. I got no idea why it did not for me before but now it does. Can we make a little, little, little modification to make this perfect? If the comment function would be hidden only for stream posts of answers to a thread, it would be perfect! On this way comments of the stream post of the created thread would go into forums and for answers there are no comments possible.

Hello Sabih,

When you say stream posts of answers, did you mean all the reply stream items? If so, I've modified your discuss.php file and this is the outcome: http://screencast.com/t/IZGm0nVjuv . Please verify this.

\o/ So perfect. Thank you very much. Now it is something cool and sexy.

Too bad I can not sign it as 'done' because I did not create the thread.

Hey Nik,

my apologizes to come back to this topic, but usually I just re-uploaded your provided discuss.php file after an update of the app and everything went fine. But with ED4, it stopped working.

I tried to find the code you have added to add it to the actual discuss.php of the latest app release, but that did not work as easy as I hoped.
