Category link is wrong in default frontpage layout

I have a menu structure Social / Discussions with the discussions submenu item linking to the easydiscuss frontpage layout.

I also have another submenu structure Resources / Job News with jobnews submenu item linking to a single Easydiscuss category.

Problem is, with this second link in place, the links to categories from the frontpage layout are wrong - they show resources/name of category rather than social/discussions/name of category. If I unpublish or delete the job news menu item, the category paths are correct but the Job News category link becomes broken.

I replaced the Job News menu item with a link direct to mysite/social/discussions/job-news and this worked fine but when you click the link on the job news category from the frontpage view, it gets a 404 http://luna.smhsct.local/?Itemid=205 - this is the link but isn't reflecting the changes I made to menus.

I've cleared my joomla cache, my easydiscuss cache and browser cache - still not working. This only affects the category links from the frontpage view.

SOrry but because the server is on an intranet, there's no external access to show you.
