It appears that even an admin cannot edit their own username from the frontend. Community Builder allowed the user to both change their username on the frontend and have a username space. In addition to this the admin could choose whether or not a user should be able to change their username.

So what I'm proposing is to have two options in the backend. One to choose whether frontend users should be able to change their username and another to choose whether to allow spaces or not. These options could either go under the custom field area or the Joomla Username Application.
Thanks for the heads up on this Josh, we'll consider this in the future Good suggestions though!

Thanks Mark. While I know it's rare for a user to change their username, it certainly happens to a lot of us. This would not only cut down on admin time, but would allow the user to more freely change their name. On some sites I've come up with a decent username and then came up with one that is much better. Had I not been able to change it, it would have been a bummer. After all, this is the name that people will be referring to us (unless they happen to look at your profile and see your name).

YouTube is one of the few famous sites that does not allow this. I can assure you there are a lot of outraged folks about this!

Was this ever implemented - I just tried to edit my username and even though Joomla user manager has it set to allow that EasySocial won't allow this.Perhaps I missed the setting somewhere for this?

Admins are still not allowed to change their username on the front yet at this point of time.

It was actually just users but anyway I can't believe you still haven't added this - as mentioned even Community Builder supports this and also I see JomSocial does as well...

Okay, my bad. It looks like this is already added as an optional settings in the custom fields, http://take.ms/EKPMX . As soon as you have that enabled, you can edit your username on the front end.

Great, a bit tucked away - thanks for finding it. I think your online documentation is all a bit out of date now?

Hey Itamar,

No problem. Yeah, if I recall correctly, this was a feature where some admins want to allow certain profile type to allow editing of username while some doesn't. This is why it was placed in the custom field settings.
