Can event date format be changed?

Is there a setting somewhere that controls how the date of an event is shown on the event page and event listings?

I'm sure there probably is, but I can't find it!!!!

Right now my events are like 30th Mar, 2015 5:15PM and I'm trying to get the day of the week showing in front, eg Sunday 29th Mar....
