Hi folks,
Just been looking at the points rules in EasySocial and it looks quite impressive. It makes me wonder why I would still need Alpa User Points? Can some from StackIdeas give a fair response to this?

The only thing I think I'll miss is the ability for a user to get points for using other (non Stackideas) components like JReviews.

What does AUP provide that EasySocial does not. If there is a big gap, are there any plans to improve the points and badges in EasySocial?

Thanks
Peter
Hello Peter,

I guess the only differences is that AUP has been there for quite a while and there are quite a number of integrations with 3rd party extensions as compared to EasySocial but I guess once more and more 3rd party developers are starting to integrate with EasySocial, you might no longer require AUP

Thanks Mark. Do I have to ask jReviews to create an app so that I can allocate points to users in EasySocial? JReviews is my biggest missing for the points now.

Your definitely going to want their help at the very least. You should start up a thread about it there. Tell them that EasySocial is the highest rated Community extension by a landslide.

Hello Peter,

Yes, you need to get in touch with Alejandro to get this going because:

1. We can't hack their codes (Not advisable since if you upgrade, the code would be overwritten)

2. Their codes are encoded / encrypted and we can't add them

I'm curious. This is Alejandro's response "Points for EasySocial were integrated from day 1. We even added an EasySocial payment handler for PaidListings recently. We we have not integrated yet is badges which is something different and that may come later this year."

Not sure what his point is about badges though. I don't think he needs to worry about badges as EasySocial awards badges based on accumulated points. Or not?

Mark, Could you clarify with Alejandro directly? He seems to think JReviews already is integrated for EasySocial points.

Hello Badges,

EasySocial does not award badges based on accumulated points. Instead, EasySocial awards badges based on your actions that you performed (It can also assign badge based on points if you want).

For instance, if you post 10 articles, you'll get a specific badge for yourself.

Ok. For the record, Alejandro was right. Jreviews was already EasySocial points ready, you just have to hit the "discover" button/link in the points configuration of EasySocial. I now see points for actions like
add a listing
delete a listing
add a review
delete a review
and more.

Thanks for the badge explanation. Only reason to use AUP seems to be for it's ability to administer contests. Is there some place I can make a request to do that for a future release?

Hey guys,

Point system in ES is definitely groundbreaking, and as Mark pointed it out, "EasySocial awards badges based on your actions that you performed". But, i would like to make just a quick remark/question on this thread: Are you guys planning to add more rules to it? Let me elaborate it. I've been using AUP since ages, for 2 determinative reasons:
1 - AUP introduced a rule called: "Happy Birthday". I think it is a must-have. (So you can award your users with special deals on their birthday. Thus, they will feel the get the privileged attention they deserve.)
2 - AUP also uses a rule called: "Login". (I've set its configurations to option 'daily', so my users receive it only once per day.) I belive it's a number-one priority for administrators and site owners to maintain daily traffic and attendance on each site. Hence, you can encourage your users to visit the site more often.

I am aware of it that we are speaking of a huge and complex system, but if EasySocial "knew" or acquired these features, it would be more than perfect and (maybe this will sound very bold) but i would get rid of AUP that instant. (You know, i'm trying to focus on economizing my sources when it comes to the site's performance) Maybe it's too early to ask this, but do you guys have such enhancements in mind?

Thanks in advance. I appreciate that.
Regards,
Attila

Attila is right, the once per day function was a pretty cool feature of AUP. Also the birthday bonus points only happened if you logged in on your birthday.

Throwing my voice behind what's being requested here. To have a really good incentive program which is what this is, would be a major plus.

I've never actually run a contest but they are a way to accelerate a certain type of behaviour where you award a prize for persons that accumulate the most points or who take specific actions by a certain date. One major feature of contests is the facility to reset and award points.
