Hi

I am wondering if you can share your extension knowledge with me,
I need a extension to create a group if not existed and add a new user depends on the value in registration form field ( dropdown list ).

I understand that you don't support it according to the link below.
http://stackideas.com/forums/automatically-creating-a-group

So I have done research for extensions, however none of them can incorporate with easy social.
They are few for jomsocial, but could not find anything suitable for easysocial.
If you know any extensions that compatible with easysocial group, please let me know.

http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions/extension/extension-specific/jomsocial-extensions/auto-group

Do you have this feature on your roadmap?
Hello Hi Shimizu,

Sorry for late reply to this,
Yes, we do not have this feature in current Easysocial version.

I have checked our roadmap, it seems like don't have include this.

By the way, you can always request this feature from our voice page http://stackideas.com/voices/easysocial .

Thanks for the heads up on this John. If I have some time over the weekend, I will see if there's anything that I can do but no promises though.

Thanks Mark, you're a gentlemen as always.

The autogroup is useful but I should have started a separate thread for the event reminders, which are much more important to me. RIght now if someone wants automatic event reminders for their attendees they have to use something like jEvents or ZapCalendar which are both really expensive and don't support ES events natively. If you add event reminders/alerts to the Easysocial events you can save your customers over $110 USD per year for each site, AND eliminate the need to run like 25 more plugins and modules just to support that functionality.

The biggest complaint I've heard from customers about Easysocial events is the invitiation function. It requires that you start typing the names of each invited attendee one at a time, manually, where this is VERY cumbersome. It would be much better to let the event owner invite an entire GROUP at a time, or choose from pre-existing list of friends or a previous distribution list of attendees.

Cheers,
Johnny

Hello Johnny,

Thanks for your input on this and appreciate your insights on this. Okay, I need to understand more about these "event reminders". What do you mean by "event reminders"? Do you mean you want the system to send a notification email to the users when the event date is nearing the current date? What sort of "reminders" are you looking at?

As for the auto group joining facility, I am actually still trying to understand the concept and see if there's a way to automate this by creating a new "Macro" feature.

First regarding groups... as a phase one it could be as simple as assigning a default group in the profile type 'group settings' tab... (much like assigning a default joomla user group for ACL purposes, only this would be for assigning a 'community group' automatically. (See attachments)

Then for future phases it could perhaps have some automation in it, like matching, where keywords or booleans in the profile data would 'auto-assign' groups with 'like affinity' matching.

Regarding the 'event notifications/alerts/reminders' there are a few things that would be highly useful to make ES Events more robust and reduce the requirement to purchase more extensions:

1. Notification / reminder mechanism - where both the event owner AND the attendees can have reminder emails sent to them on a prescribed timing, much like in Mac Calendar app... (see attachments) This boost engagement, comments, attendance, much more.

2. Large Responsive Calendar Module (much like the joomlathat.com calendar planner extension http://demo.joomlathat.com/index.php/calendar-planner/month, only one that supports proper RSVP and reminders. This could make Easysocial the premier events app for those not yet requiring paid ticket sales. Adding those two features saves your customer at minimum $230USD per site from 3rd party extensions.

Thanks for listening.
Cheers
Johnny

Thanks for the input on this Johnny. I am going to try to add the auto group joining into 1.3.23 but the reminders is a little larger than it can fit for 1.3.23. Will probably see if we can do something about this on 1.3.24.

We are racing against time right now by juggling between EasyBlog 5.0, EasySocial 1.4 and EasySocial 1.3

I think there's even greater value in @John's Group-Based event invite request:

The biggest complaint I've heard from customers about Easysocial events is the invitiation function [...] It would be much better to let the event owner invite an entire GROUP at a time

Auto group membership tied to a member profile type presumes the Admin has knowledge beforehand of all the relevant relationships and affiliations between ES members.

On the other hand, empowering site members themselves to leverage social affiliations they've made and understand is more supportive of the social utility of ES engagement. Please consider enabling invitations by Group (and if you do share the code so we have a model how to extend that to other areas that's valuable to individual requirements).

Correct me If I getting wrong of you guys discussed about event invitation, by default Easysocial event already included this functionality of custom field called "Member Transfer type" , what this custom field purpose is when the user create an event in the GroupA(example), they can able to set "Member Transfer type" to INVITE and publish the event in the group, so all the group member under this GroupA also get invited by email.

Yes if you're within a group context already and create a 'group event' certainly it should send invite to the group. But it should ALSO support the use-case of where a registered user is creating an event (outside of specific group-context): In this case there would ideally be several ways to concatenate the invitation recipient list addresses and send invitations:

The same holds true for nearly any 'addressable' situation such as groups, events, message recipient selections, etc.

1. Invite by starting to the type a name (like it works today)
2. Invite current friends (select from existing friends list visually)
3. invite members of groups I am a member of (pick from list?)
4. Invite a distribution list of email addresses typed into a text area (comma delimited? or a nicer address entry selector?)
5. Option to pull addresses from connected social networks' friend-lists and email address contact lists (with proper credentials)
6. Save current invitee list (for future events)
7. Select whether to send via email, internal ES message, both, etc)

All these methods should be employable to create the final list of invitees, which after review, could be sent in a single click/tap.

IMHO

@Arlex, thanks for the capability I overlooked. I've been working a separate plugin providing unrelated function but will be looking to integrate with ES soon. Can you point out for me where to look (file(s)) for code to see examples of 1) a users groups being enumerated and 2) as in this case, where the members of a particular group are being traversed?

@MARK thanks for responding so quickly with ES 1.3.23 -- the new group auto-assign is a great first step for this feature. Nicely done.

hi John Crivello ,

Thanks for your suggestion, perhaps you can request this feature from our voice page http://stackideas.com/voices/easysocial .

Hi Eileen,

I have a little bit lost here, can you elaborate more details with your question?
1) a users groups being enumerated and
2) as in this case, where the members of a particular group are being traversed?

Please advise.

Hi Arlex,

If you can point me in the write direction, that'd be great Here's what I need to do: from code, given a users ID, I'd like to be able to get a list of the groups that user belongs to. Also, given a Group ID, I'd like to be able to get a list of that group's members.

Hello Eileen,

You could run a code like this to retrieve the list of groups the user belongs to,

$model = FD::model('Groups');
$model->getUserGroups($userId);

To get a list of members from a group,

$group = FD::group($groupId);
$group->getMembers();
