Dear Tech Team,

I believe all the ED plugins for AUP now award points to users taking a certain action based on the rules. I would like to assign points instead, to recipients of "accepted answers" and whose responses are "voted up" in order to encourage quality input from users, as pointed out in some previous posts such as the one included in the link.

Could you please advise how the codes should be modified to accomplish this? I had read an old post where Mark changed the codes for a user but there was no details I could refer to and the codes in the link are no longer being used in the current version of ED.

Your help would be greatly appreciated and should help other subscribers as well.

Many thanks!
Hey there,

I am really sorry for the delay of this reply as it is actually a public day off for us here. If you want to integrate specific actions with AUP, you will need to use the API from AUP instead of EasyDiscuss. Then, you will need to apply your own set of hacks into the core files when the user performs the action.

For instance, for accepted answers, the logics are at /components/com_easydiscuss/controllers/posts.php in the method "accept".

Hi, Mark, does it mean that those hacks you did previously for Jiaxin in the link no longer work? If they still do somehow, could you send me those files/codes for adaptation? Thanks!

Hey there,

We do not provide support for hacks, and I do not keep a copy of any hacks that I have performed unfortunately.

Hi, Mark,

With all due respect, my problem with the response is twofold -
1) It wouldn't be fair that some users receive a higher level of support than others - there are others who had definitely received help with hacking their files for the exact same request. The forum should be a resource for all subscribers and the discussions as well as the related contents (other than private data) should be transparent so that others would be able to benefit from them. (That's why making changes on someone's site without sharing the solution on the forum with the wider audience could sometimes be counterproductive because you may then need to address the same issue multiple times with others.)
2) The extension advertises itself as being integrated with AUP where "users can earn points from their participation in the forum.". Based on feedback from other users on the forum, it is not unusual for subscribers to expect that points would be awarded to those who post "Accepted Answers" rather than the ones who accept an answer. Since there are AUP plugins available, one would expect that a rule or at least an option would be provided by ED as many, if not most, subscribers would not, at the point of purchase based on the product description, expect that they would need to have experience coding/hacking extensions to get a basic feature such as this to function.

I am not asking for customization of my site but an update of the rules that others had requested, which I am sure many more (who are guided by your product description) could use now and in the future.

I am sure you would appreciate and understand the points I raised, if you put yourself in the shoes of your customers.

Thanks!

Hey there,

I am sorry that delay of this reply,

Thanks for your suggestion and feedback, it would be best if you can submit a feature request regarding this in our voice page -> http://stackideas.com/voices/easydiscuss , so our developer will take a look of this.

Hi, Arlex,

Appreciate your response and I would be happy to log in my request for future enhancement.

However, I have an immediate need for the rule, which others had received help to set up previously. On that basis, could you kindly share that with me and publish the plugin on this forum, so that others could also download it until it becomes part of the standard package?

Thanks!

Hey there,

I am really sorry for the delay of this reply, we might have missed your post earlier as we were pretty occupied with the release of EasySocial 1.4. Unfortunately we are unable to accommodate your customization request right now.

Hi, Mark,

I meant to respond earlier but was tied up with things.

I didn't miss your response, which did not address my concern about unequal treatment among customers with identical requests. What I am asking for is not customization for my site but to be given the same access to a solution that was previously dispensed to other customers.

I appreciate your support but am sure you, as a business leader, would appreciate my concern as well.

Thanks!

Hey there,

I am not entirely sure what you mean about "identical requests" but in our support scope, we did clearly state that customizations are only provided on case by case basis.

If we have the time to accommodate your requests, we will definitely do this. If we perform this customization for you and it takes 10 minutes, what if other 1,000 customers comes back to us using the same "identical requests" or "unequal treatment" ? This way, we end up spending 166 man hours just to work on similar requests.

Thanks for understanding.

Hi, Mark,

I do not want to engage in a rhetorical debate about this as it would be counter-productive. I have already explained that your team had previously provided solutions to others who requested these AUP codes that would assign points to those who respond (instead of those who request).

The most recent post, as mentioned above, as I recall is for Jiaxin and I only asked for the same set of codes, which I could then adapt.

Furthermore, this is not a feature that only I felt would be useful and make sense but also others in the past and from the discussion about what to include in ED4.

If you decide not to help, I would be disappointed but would abide by your decision nonetheless.

Cheers!

Hi, Mark,

I believe I posted a link with my original or second post on Sep 1 but it it is no longer being shown for some reason. Among the various posts I had seen, I quoted the one you traded with Jiaxin a couple times.

A search for AUP point on this forum can no longer find any entry as well. Is this because there is a migration with the new format that affected the database? I used to be able to find a good number of posts with "AUP"; now, even this post is not listed when I do a search.

Hey there,

I am really sorry for the delay of this reply,

By right it should still appear on this forum if that discussion post is not deleted.

By the way, I've tried to find this keyword `AUP` on our forum search engine, it seems work fine, you can take a look of my attached screenshot below.

Hi, Arlex,

If you are to select EasyDiscuss as your Category, you will get no result. You may like to take a second look.

Could you or Mark also address my main concern based on my last response?

Thanks!

Hey,

What you are requesting for is a customization. If the exact same customization was done before for another customer, you could just follow the same guide. This is actually why we are asking you which discussion you are referring to

Hi, Mark,

I am not sure why you kept asking for a link to the post when I clearly stated that it was from Jiaxin and explained that I could no longer find that post using your front-end search function -

I believe I had previously submitted a link with my initial post but that hyperlink seems to have fallen off for some reason and is no longer visible on the front-end.

As mentioned in my reply to Arlex, ED search function now renders "No results found" whenever a specific forum is chosen. You can try this with any post and any forum - I have surely done that multiple times and believe it could be a bug with ED4 beta.

It also appears to me that some of the older posts may have been permanently archived and no longer accessible on the front-end with the migration to ED4 beta since I couldn't find some of the related posts I had seen previously even if I do a general search without specifying any forum.

In response to your comment about me following the guidance provided in your post to Jiaxin, that's what I had intended to do. However, it was a hack that you did offline and, hence, my subsequent response to you -

I trust that you and your team would be in the position to extract the post from Jiaxin on the back-end based on the information provided thus far. Will wait to hear from you.

Thanks!

Hey,

We have permanently archived posts older than 3 years to free up the database and so that it doesn't clog up the cpu since we have too much data. Unfortunately we will not be able to restore these data now and I don't even know which "Jiaxin" are you referring to here.

Jianxin is the name of the subscriber who posted the request.

You also have not addressed whether there is a bug with the search function and, if not, why specifying any particular forum would yield no result.

Hey there,

I am sorry for the delay of this reply,

Perhaps you can provide us with this jiaxin email address so we can track back this subscriber from our site database?

You also have not addressed whether there is a bug with the search function and, if not, why specifying any particular forum would yield no result.

Thanks for reported, I will pass this issue to our site administrator to check on this.

Hi, Arlex,

Thanks for the follow up. I only noted the screen name from the Forum and wouldn't have access to the email address.

In any case, as I mentioned, I believe I did include a hyperlink to that post in my original email but that hyperlink is no longer showing up in this ED4 beta forum.

Cheers
