Assigning a blogger to a category

We have over 100 assign bloggers on our site. Each blogger is assigned a channel which falls into one of 6 EB categories. We recurrent request our bloggers select their assigned category at the time they post using the drop down menu. They are happy to select their assigned category, if they remember to do so, however sometimes they forget this setting. When they forget their post doesn't show on the front page. Since most of the site traffic goes to the front page, to see what is new, their error causes a big reduction of views for that post. Site administration checks almost daily to see if posts are mis-categorized, fixes the category assignment and sends a reminder email to the blogger. Administrators would prefer to do development work and bloggers would prefer not to repeatedly hear they forget a minor but important detail in posting.

I would suggest category assignment be allowed on the Blogger Info tab of the user. The channel selected on the Blogger Info page would automatically select the category on the New Blog Post page.

If first suggestion is too difficult to code for I would suggest an alternative approach.

When creating an EB category there is the ability to assign an Author. I'm not sure what this is used for, but it seems like it could be used to assign a blogger to that category. When a blogger is assigned to that category that would become the default for the blogger.

If there is some other way to achieve my desire to assign a blogger to a category I am open to try your method.
