Suggestion on Clarification of wording to cut down support questions about the Easydiscuss Content plugin1
Where should the article be stored? Tool Tip - Select which category should the article be stored in
To add some clarity I suggest the following wording in the Basics options.
Store article in what Easydiscuss category? Tooltip - Enter one category ID here.
Screencast: http://screencast.com/t/esCYyG6b
Any time clarification of wording in Option Parameters makes it easier it cuts down on Support queries. Just thought I would add this suggestion. All other options appear to be real clear.

1 - if you got different content in your blog categories it might be hard to find a global one for the comments. so it would be great to link different blog categories to easydiscuss categories insted of pulling everything in a single one.
2 - after enabling the plugin all blog entries where automatically created as categories. Now the result is that there are perhaps hundreds of new discussions - all empty and doing nothing. wouldn't it be better that a discussion is created ONLY when someon's commenting for the first time? so there aren't hundreds of empty entries in the forum which is always looking bad-
Hello Alex,
1. Sorry but I don't quite get you here. Would you mind elaborating more on this?
2. The reason why it gets generated automatically is that some users might want to click on the "Add comment" to link to the discussions directly instead of posting a comment. Perhaps this should be made configurable? -
Hello Alex,
Okay I just remembered why option #2 is not possible :( This is actually because if the contents are not associated at start, there's no way to inter-relate between the article and the discussions (For example, when liking the articles).

On my test site, blog entries create new discussions but they continue to use EasyBlog's commenting system rather than using EZD for comments. The plugin is published so I am not sure if I am missing some other setting.0
There also seems to be an issue with the discussions count. It seems discussions created using EasyBlog are counted correctly but discussions created using Joomla articles are not part of the count. The discussions are created but not counted.
Subscribed Products: -
0Hello Vicente,
You actually need to disable the comments in EasyBlog first. After disabling the comments in EasyBlog, the comments will be used from EasyDiscuss instead.
As for the incorrect counts, would it be possible to create a separate thread and include the site's access as well?

Hi Mark,0
I'll create another thread for the count issue, but disabling comments in EasyBlog doesn't do the trick. I continue to have these two issues on a new Joomla install and will login credentials in the new post.

I'm planning on using this on a review site. The only problem I see is that I have review comments, and then I would have normal comments for discussions about the product. I was hoping their would be some sort of syntax {easydiscuss} so I could place the comments anywhere; for example tab1=review&comments tab2=discussions. Can this be added to the todo list for the future?44 votes by Al, Dan Kellerby, Steven Orr, Randall McCallumRandall McCallum likes this post.

Does these module triggers content plugins?-

content plugins can have a syntax like {easydiscuss} within Joomla articles. It doesn't make sense until you use it with K2 and others like it. K2 allows content plugins syntax anywhere in it's custom layouts. Then I can make {easydiscuss} load in a tab.

I think there are some issues with the Article Comments (EasyDiscuss plugin).0
I was testing EZD 2 on a site to see how it would look and when I tried to open the About Us article page, which usually opens real quickly, it took almost 3 minutes. I thought it was the server, but then when I checked the page I found all of this below.
See the screencast for more details. The plugin is acting real strange, so I will have to remove it until it is fixed.

0Hello Randall,
Thanks! I am currently trying this locally
-
Also when I checked the front page discussion list a bunch of questions were added with duplicates of questions already asked.
I went to the back end and deleted the discussions that got added as there were only supposed to be two questions in the discussion list.
Not sure if my deleting the discussions in the administrator has anything to do with this happening.

Is it possible to hide the questions / comments on the articles? i.e. just have a link to the relevant discussion.0
Additionally, since we have very long articles, it would useful [as mentioned above] if the relevant section can be quoted in EasyDiscuss; maybe the questioner can select / highlight the section the question is related to?
Likewise, since our articles are often lecture transcriptions and have many questions, it would be great if there can be multiple questions / answers per article.
Thanks!
Subscribed Products: -
We have also noted that somehow, article authors are automatically being added as questioners. For example, we have lots of articles by two authors. Since activating the plugin, we looked at the Members list to see who has posted the most, and these two authors appear with 50+ questions, but neither have written any questions. The list of their questions shows a list of articles. It seems that as the plugin becomes aware of articles (by people reading them I guess). Now it is adding all the articles from the site into "Unresolved" discussions! (We have several thousand articles.........)0
-
We have disabled the plugin and deleted several hundred "discussions."
Clearly, this auto-indexing of articles, and adding them as discussions, will not work for us. Is this an intentional function of the plugin?
Subscribed Products: -

0Hello,
The plugin will actually create new discussions for your articles that you create on the site and map it back into EasyDiscuss allowing you to link your article to the discussions
That's the whole idea of the plugin actually
-
As currently designed, it adds several thousand empty discussions to EasyDiscuss, as well as describing the article authors as "questioners" all of which would be quite confusing to our visitors.1
We like the idea of readers being able to ask a question about an article and have the link made at that time (plus, as we mentioned above, the possibility of multiple, separate questions per article). If it is possible to modify the functionality per the comments we made in the posts above, we would love to use the plugin.1 vote by n00bster

0Hello,
There's a bug actually in the article plugin which I'll be updating very shortly. The bug in the previous version is that it keeps generating new discussions when you post a comment (Not sure if this is the behavior you are referring to) But the idea of this plugin is,
1 new discussion will be created for 1 article. Which also means that if you have 100 articles in your Joomla site, you will see 100 discussions in EasyDiscuss.

Hello!0
I have installed easyDiscuss content plugin and configure it for com_k2. Now every browser reload with opened k2 article causes new discussion created on the same article. E.g. open in your browser next link
http://kaliningrad.selfip.net/joomla25/index.php?option=com_k2&view=item&id=6
press [F5] several times and have some fun!
What's going wrong?

0Hello Konstantin,
I've applied some patches on your site because the plugin wasn't updated in the forums yet. Can you give this a try again? By the way, is it possible for you to clear out the existing discussions to test this out?-
Yes, feel free to do anything you need to resolve any problems. It's a test resourse. Thank You! -
Plugin enabled, but it seems that nothing happens for now... -
Hello Konstantin,
Do you mean there's no duplicates now? -
Hmmm... There is nothing at all. http://kaliningrad.selfip.net/joomla25/index.php?option=com_k2&view=item&id=10 - For now no discussion created even single one and no plugin's output shown. -
Update:
It seems that EasyDiscuss plugin works fine but only in com_content.
Examples:
Working - com_content: http://kaliningrad.selfip.net/joomla25/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=1&Itemid=243
Not working - com_k2: http://kaliningrad.selfip.net/joomla25/index.php?option=com_k2&view=item&id=4 -
IMHO, there might be a trouble in logic at /plugins/content/easydiscuss/easydiscuss.php:85
if( $this->extension == 'com_easydiscuss' || $this->loaded || ( isset( $article->easydiscuss ) && $article->easydiscuss == true ) || !$article->state )
This returns TRUE either com_easydiscuss or com_k2 is in $this->extension variable. Or maybe I missed something.

0Hello Konstantin,
Sorry for the delays. Is it possible for you to provide me with the FTP access to your dev site?
-
Hello Mark,0
Delays aren't critical, it's OK. Belive me, your responses much more quicker than others developers I'm working with. Yes it is possible, but I'm never using FTP under Joomla because there is nice com_extplorer. It's already installed, so feel free to use it from adminpanel.
Otherwise, if you prefer direct FTP connectoin, I'll create it for you. Just ask for it.
UPD:
com_Extplorer do much things easy, because not all hosting-providers use suexec. So if a directory 755 created with ftp-user then Joomla can't write to it.

0Hello Konstantin,
Yep, you are right! There was a problem with the checking on the "state" property. Since K2 doesn't use "state", this is failing on K2. I have added a fix on this and it should work fine now
-
Thank you! We will test. I have some ideas about k2 comments discuss plugin and I'll write about it later. -
Hello Konstantin,
Sure :D Let me know how it goes.
-
-
New bug found.0
Description:
1. Plugin automatically creates new discussion under article (Ok)
2. After some time past in adminpanel we've deleted this discussion (Ok)
3. Plugin can't again create discussion due to ##_discuss_posts_references still contains records on (discuss)posts which already had been deleted. (Bug)
Even there are no any (discuss)posts exists, references table contains all history which normally has to be deleted. Let's do db request and see that it is true:
select * from `##_discuss_posts` limit 0,100 ..
No data returned
select * from `##_discuss_posts_references` limit 329,3
id post_id reference_id extension
330 1677 1 com_content
331 1679 4 com_k2
332 1681 3 com_k2
Because of this, the plugin think that discussion already exists and returns nothing:
/plugins/content/easydiscuss/easydiscuss.php:149
147 // Get the mapping
148 $ref = DiscussHelper::getTable( 'PostsReference' );
149 $exists = $ref->loadByExtension( $article->id , $this->extension );
here we get $exists = 1 and next we don't need to map anything:
/plugins/content/easydiscuss/easydiscuss.php:151
151 if( !$exists )
152 {
153 // Map the article into EasyDiscuss
154 $this->mapExisting( $article );
155
156 $ref = DiscussHelper::getTable( 'PostsReference' );
157 $ref->loadByExtension( $article->id , $this->extension );
158 }
And as a conclusion we trying to load post with not existing id:
/plugins/content/easydiscuss/easydiscuss.php:160
160 // Load the discussion item
161 $post = DiscussHelper::getTable( 'Post' );
162 $post->load( $ref->post_id );
Possible solution:
##_discuss_posts_references must be checked for orphaned entries when user delete discussion.
Thank you.

Hello Mark,1
As I said before, I have some ideas about this plugin and K2:
1) Plugin in current state not quite suit com_k2 because it allows indpended usage from com_k2's native comments. It's bad - you can't control it with k2 config. By the way, plg_content_discuss appears in com_k2 article at the place where it should't be - right after fulltext.
I think about solution and I found only way to fork plg_content_discuss to plg_k2_discuss which suits com_k2 only. Why? Because com_k2 uses self items and events structure which differs form com_content so I think that it will be better to use it separately. I decided to rewrite source of plg_content_discuss to see if it possible to replace native com_k2 comments using com_k2 events onAfterK2Save, onK2CommentsBlock, onK2CommentsCounter. Well I did that plugin and it seems to work well on my test environment. It should be attached below.
2) Category mapping. It is possible that someone sometime encounter with big broblem - all discussions from all components will be mixed in only one com_easydiscuss category. How to separate disussions from different com_content or com_k2 categories to different com_discuss ones? Maybe it should be mapping in plugin params? E.g. text field with content like "content:2,discuss:5;content:3,discuss:6;content:4,discuss:7;k2:1,discuss:1;k2:2,discuss:2;k2:3,discuss:3;k2:4,discuss:4;" wich intended to map categories. I have no idea how to make it, may be you have one, Mark?1 vote by Steven Orr-

0Hello guys,
Oh wow, didn't know that this plugin has so much tractions
I am not entirely sure how does K2 work but do they have some sort of comment triggers? I could add the codes back into our source but I'll give them a try again.
-
This is a really great plugin, if only it would work with Zoo and MosetsTree. Currently I have a forum and comments on my site, and this plugin makes at least one component irrelevant. Zoo has its own comments system and none of the current comment components integrate Zoo.... but Zoo's comment system doesn't integrate with Jomsocial. I managed to show Jomsocial avatars and a link to user's profile with a hack, but it's not satisfying. So this is my comment system #1. My comment component for other content is CompoJoom Comment and it integrates MostesTree but not Zoo. So this is my comment system #2. Additionally I need for every Zoo application and every CompoJoom Comment component integration an extra "Latest Comments" module. It's really crazy! Of course I would prefer one comments solution for all of my components, plus there will be a forum too... GREAT! But there are two problems on my side:0
1. I have the mentioned bug with the doubled comments form too (currently only in EasyBlog because I use Zoo for articles, not Joomla), reported by Alex: http://stackideas.com/support/discussions/article-comments-easydiscuss-plugin.html#reply-21978
2. There is no integration with other components
Are there any plans for the future? Please

-
Which delay, Mark? 30 Minutes is a really great respond time0
I downloaded the file in the first post today.
Oh, then is there a syntax like {easydiskuss} to place into content/code? I just did not quite understand your answer here: http://stackideas.com/support/discussions/article-comments-easydiscuss-plugin.html#reply-22338

0Hello Noemi,
Unfortunately there's no codes to place to load up the comments but as long as Zoo or any 3rd party components triggers the content plugins (The plugins that are normally used to format contents), this plugin should work :P I believe Zoo does trigger's the content plugin so you might want to add "com_zoo" into the allowed section of the plugin parameters.
-
Hm, but there must be a way to tell Zoo or MosetsTree where to load the comments form, otherwise it won't work.0
Subscribed Products: -
0Hello Noemi,
The plugin will automatically detect this actually based on the object that is passed from the component. In this case, it's Zoo or Mosets Tree.-
Unfortunately, neither the form shows on Zoo articles or Mosets Tree listings, nor will the link back to the specific article be created correctly at the discussion page (it points to home). -
Hello Noemi,
Does Zoo or Mosets tree triggers content plugins?
-
-
A clarification :0
I had some articles with specific html code to display the jwplayer "http://www.longtailvideo.com/players/jw-flv-player/"
so when the easydiscuss comment is enabled in this article it will copy the article as it is ,and the code will not be translated by easy discuss to a flash video player.so it displays the ugly code,
is there any solution to that ?
e,g enable the comments on the article and at the same time prevents easydiscuss from copying the article to the discsussions ?
Subscribed Products: -
0Hello Aelsharawi,
What you should try to do is to enable the content plugin triggers from the back end settings of EasyDiscuss and it will actually try to trigger the content plugins so that the contents would be passed over to the plugins.
-
Would it be possible to have this not add any articles automatically?0
When I create an article in EasyBlog I have the choice to send it to twitter or Facebook.
can you add a 3rd option to have it go to EasyDiscuss?
This would solve the problem with hundreds of new discussions being added.
You could then just select the articles you want to have in your discussions.

Yes, you can actually depending on where you are integrating this into. If you are creating a front page view with the normal Joomla articles, you should see these links.
I am using TinyMCE as defaut editor and when an article is created in discussions section I have a link "read more" showed in code at the end, is it normal ?
Hm, it shouldn't behave this way actually. It should be based on your current settings. If you are using the WYSIWYG editor, it should include the html contents versus the BBCode contents.-
Thank for your answer.
For the "Read more link", I am using the Joomla content component I have activated the "read more link" in the plugin settings but it is not showing on the blog page. I don't have this problem with Komento. What can I do ?

Hi Mark, as 3.0 has been out for a while now I thought I would check back in with this thread as I need K2 functionality in order to make Easydiscuss viable for me, does the plugin now work with K2 for comments as well?0

0Hello,
Sorry we're still working on this
There's quite a bit of change that's needed for this to work because we've revamped the way ED3 works
-
Hi Mark, just checking back in again as it has been another couple of months. Has the K2 content plugin now been updated to work with ED3?0

0Hello Bungle,
Yep, you can download the plugin here, http://stackideas.com/forums/content-plugin-v3-alpha-for-easyblog,-joomla-articles-and-k2.html

Hi Mark, I don't have access to that page as I am not a subscriber as yet - I have been holding off because the old K2 plugin wasn't working and it is a requirement to make sure it works as needed.0
I see it is in Alpha so I guess there are a few bugs needing ironing out of it yet, any chance I can try it/ see it in use somewhere please.

0Hello,
I have never heard from any reports from anyone so far so I guess it should be working fine
I'd personally advise that you purchase the subscription for EasyDiscuss and if you have any issues at all, let us know and we'll fix it for you
