On the roadmap of ES 1.4 there is a task with the following title: Allow admin to define default installed apps for profile type. Also can be seen here: http://stackideas.com/roadmap/easysocial

My question is if you can provide some additional details about how this will work? Will it be granular and allow for apps to only be included for certain profile types or will it be generic to all profile types and only allow the admin to choose if it is enabled by default or not? Just a little further explanation is all.

Thanks,
James
Hello James,

I am sorry for the delay of this reply.

To be honest I cannot provide much information regarding on this new feature. However I will try to answer your inquiry based on my understanding on how the system works.
Will it be granular and allow for apps to only be included for certain profile types or will it be generic to all profile types and only allow the admin to choose if it is enabled by default or not?

This feature will be available to all profile types and only admin can choose which apps to be enabled by default for each profile types. The concept is almost the same as default groups feature that we currently have in the latest version of easysocial.

Thanks Ezrul

It sounds like it will work the way I am expecting.

Ideally it would work so that the admin can choose which apps are usable by different profile types. For example, if a community was based on Teachers and Students one user group might be able to write blogs/articles and the other not. If this was the case only that profile type would need access to that particular app.

Hello James,

That's exactly how this features work. For example one profile type can use blog apps while others can't.
