Hi,
Hope i'm in right place to ask some advice.
I'm working on a joomla collaborative platform with easy social.
Our goal is to let our registered users to publish custom content like classified ads.
We want to use easysocial to animate the community around that content.
For exemple, the custom content could be a classified ads for car-pooling, and we wish to use easysocial to let the community exchange with the user, rate him etc.
One plus will be to import automatically this type of content in Easysocial Events.

So at this point of the conception, we are sure we want to use easysocial, but a huge part of the business process of our collaborative platform, it's the custom content post by the registered users.

There is two way, i guess, to do it:

  • use a CCK to build new custom content for joomla, but it need to be compatible with Easysocial.
  • in this case witch one do you think will be the most suitable for our need.
  • Or maybe build in the functionality in a Easysocial application ?

I'm aware that my description is a little foggy, but i can't actually explain exactly the concept of our platform.

Anyway thanks in advance for your help.
Hey Halim,

I am really sorry for the delay of this reply as it is a weekend for us here. Unfortunately without a clear "direction" of where you are heading, it's really difficult for me to share my thoughts. However, I will try to provide answers to your both scenarios:

1. EasySocial works out of the box with EasyBlog, K2 and there are 3rd party apps which adds integrations with Zoo from Yootheme. If you want to pursuit this, then these should be your available choices

2. I would reckon that you build a custom app around EasySocial because if you are looking at building a site for a long haul, having greater control over your own app would be ideal. Most of the time CCK's can only do so much and you will most likely (believe me), end up hacking the extension in K2 / Zoo / EasyBlog / EasySocial to achieve what you really want.

Hope this helps!

Hi mark,
Thank you for your response.
I'm not a php/web developer, i'm from java world, so if i can minimise the coding part, i will be very happy

We are looking to maybe use dj-classifields extension, it's seem to be the near thing out of the box of the custom content we want. Nice part, it's compatible with easysocial and seem to be build on K2.

So if we go with with extension, a huge part of our functional process will be done.
May i ask if you have any concern about it ?

But like i say in my first post, one thing we want is that the community react on this content on easysocial and we think that to be able to add classifieds, like car-pooling, in Easysocial Events could be a nice.
That way the community of the user will easily see the car-pooling in his event calendar for example.

I read some old post asking about importing external event in Easysocial Events. I must confess i didn't search more cause i was focusing on the custom content, but if it's now possible, i will certainly search for the documentation.

Last point, like you have say, i'm not really clear in the direction. Sorry about that.
We are not sure if it's wise to share our concept for now. As far as you know, if we share with someone from stackideas support our concept, to determine the best integration for example, does the exchange is secure by non disclosure ?

Thanks again for you help.

best regards

Hey Halim,

I don't see any problems using a 3rd party extension that works with EasySocial but I would suggest that you check with the developer of that extension first to ensure that it really meets your needs
