I am sorry but unfortunately right now there is no ways to include the post's category alias in the permalink of a discussion

In EasyDiscuss 4.0, if you create a menu item that links to a category and the post is posted in that category, it will use that menu's id instead as the item id.

I would be nice to be able to customize the layout or assign modules to posts in a single category without affecting others. Assigning a category template to a menu item won't work since you can access a post item without using that menu item and so the customization won't be picked up.

At least if category is in the URL, we can use module assignments by the URL to control the layout. Alternatively, the category's posts could be over-ridden by a template selected in the settings for that category.

It's just a thought, thanks for considering.

So will all URLs that might not be attached to a menu item (say in a recent discussions module) automatically change the URL to include menu id?

Yes, that is correct Jordan We're still trying with several new ideas with EasyDiscuss 4. In fact, the routing behavior will be pretty identical with EasyBlog and EasySocial where we only fire 1 SQL query to retrieve all related menu items. Huge performance gain!
