ACL for multiple team blogs?
-
ResolvedAm I correct in my understanding that Easyblog can be used to create multiple SEPARATE team blogs? And if so, can access to these blogs be restricted on the basis of user group?
Can users be directed on login to a specific blog, based on user group? Assuming this is not a standard feature, any idea what would be involved in achieving this as a custom module?
Does Jomsocial integration enable users to create their own blogs?

Selected answer for this questionHey Adam,
Sorry, got a little tired yesterday and slept off
Yes, correct. If you are looking at "Publishing Rights", you definitely want to use the ACL that is built into EasyBlog where you can accustom different publishing rights for different user groups out of the box

Hey Adam,
Yes, you can create custom separate team blogs on the site. Currently the team blog members will need be added manually by the admin. However, we are planning to add this feature in EasyBlog 2.1 where members can subscribe to join the team.
I have actually wrote a custom plugin that automatically signs the user up into a specific team based on their user group. If you need this, let me know and I'll add it up for you.
Sorry, not too sure about redirecting login to a specific blog. Do you mean, upon logging in the user get's redirect to the specific team url?
Actually with or without jomsocial's integration, every users on the site are able to create their own blogs (provided that as the admin, you configure the users to be allowed to create their own blogs)
Hope this helps!-
@ Jack: Wow, talk about a quick response! :-)
Regarding the "redirect", I am looking at creating a community site that will be shared by different organizations. Users from each organization will be assigned to the same custom user group; and each organization will have its own blog. When they login to Joomla, I want them to be redirected to the blog for their organization.
I hope that makes more sense :-)

Looks like this (Redirect-on-Login) might do the job:

Jack: Am happy to be receiving any replies on the weekend. Besides, compared to most extension developers, you've been remarkably speedy!
I assume (???) I will need to limit access based on user group, not teams, because I want to appoint a small team of authors to each blog (eg Company X Managers), plus allow read/comment-only access to a large number of users (eg Company X Staff). Assuming my assumption is correct, and assuming this feature is not built-in. Can you suggest any work-around?

Hey Adam,
Ah, because you can't really limit access based on user groups unfortunately
You can only restrict members to view blogs from their own team which is possible. If there would be only 2 groups, then I guess you wouldn't really need a team blog actually.
Let's just assume that (Company X managers) will be in a certain user group and will have appropriate ACL permissions configured in the back end of EasyBlog.
Then, with certain user groups (Company X Staff) apply the acl for posting comments (Reading blog entries is not restricted by the ACL right now
)

FYI, numerous companies will share the same website, and each company will have 2 blogs, one for staff and another for customers.
If all members from a company were automatically assigned to a team blog (using the custom plugin you mentioned above), is there any way to nominate some as authors, and allow the rest of the team only read/comment access? If not, would creating a custom module for this be a big job?

Jack: After consulting the Easyblog Documentation, I think I understand your most recent post more clearly. It seems I was working on a misconception. You see, I had understood a "blogging team" to be the users who have permission to publish to a specific blog. But after reading the documentation, it seems that a "team" is simply the members of a private blog, and their ability to publish or administer the blog in other ways can be set via the Easyblog ACL by Joomla user group, or by individual. Is this correct?
Many thanks for you assistance to date!

Hello,
I am sorry for the delay of this reply as it is a weekend for us here and most of us are unavailable as the company is having a retreat over this weekend.
In the toolbar of the blog, or if you are on the team layout, there's actually a "Subscribe" link which your users / browsers can click on to subscribe to the team blog.

You mentioned at the onset of this thread that you have a custom plugin where you said "I have actually wrote a custom plugin that automatically signs the user up into a specific team based on their user group. If you need this, let me know and I'll add it up for you."
Is this something still available?

Hello Daniel,
Yes, the plugin seems to be in our repository. Not sure if it is still work-able. If you want, I can try to apply this for you.
By the way, it looks like your account is not tied up with any subscription and you will actually not be able to access our priority support. Is it possible for you to provide me with your order reference # so that I can check on this?
