Yes, that option should work correctly
With that option enabled, when you share a story, EasySocial should post an update to your facebook. Ah of course you will need to login with your facebook and when facebook prompt to grant the permission of posting update to your facebook, you must grant the permission

Anyway, just curious to know, after you've enabled the 'update timeline' setting, and when you attempt to login with facebook again, did facebook ask you for the permission to post to your facebook?
If no, thats means your granted permission to facebook do not have the 'update timeline'
