Upgrading

Just received an update about a new release? Not to worry, follow the guides here before you start upgrading.

Upgrading from EasyBlog 3.0.x to EasyBlog 3.5.x is really simple. There's two options that you can go with while we always suggest to go for the latter as it will clear up existing unused files.

  • Normal installation on top of existing installed version
  • Perform a reinstall of EasyBlog

Pre-Requisites

We've added tons of new features on EasyBlog 3.5, the installer automatically became larger and there is no real way to minimize the installer while increasing the features. You will need to ensure that your php limits are higher than the above.

Obtaining EasyBlog 3.5

All you need to do here is to access your downloads area and download the latest version.

Normal installation

Proceed to your Joomla installer and browse for the files and hit the upload and install button.

Re-installation

To perform a reinstallation, you will need to uninstall the existing copy of EasyBlog. Then, perform a normal installation of EasyBlog and you are good to go

× Note: Data will remain intact. The only changes / removals during the upgrade is the files. If you've made any customizations, be sure to back it up first.

Obtaining EasyBlog 3.7

All you need to do here is to access your downloads area and download the latest version.

Normal installation

Proceed to your Joomla installer and browse for the files and hit the upload and install button.

To perform a reinstallation, you will need to uninstall the existing copy of EasyBlog. Then, perform a normal installation of EasyBlog and you are good to go

EasyBlog 2.1 introduced a new option which allows site webmaster or administrator to easily upgrade to newer versions. Before proceeding, you should take note of what the updater does.

What this script does

  • Checks if your current version needs upgrading.
  • One click upgrade process
  • Makes a backup of the files that will be upgraded
  • Run necessary SQL queries for the update

What this script does not do

  • It does not backup your whole site.
  • It does not backup your database.
  • It does not automagically patch your modifications

Prerequisites

  • Your hosting needs to allow remote connection to port 3333.
  • Your hosting provider needs to support CURL extensions in PHP.
  • You need to obtain an API key from Your account area.

Please ensure that you have made a backup first for just in case purposes.

Step 1 - Setting the API keys

After obtaining the API keys, enter the API keys in the main control section and hit the save button.

Step 2 - Accessing the updater screen

You may access the updater by clicking on the updater icon as shown below

Step 3 - Accept the terms and conditions

Before proceeding, you will need to ensure that you agree to the terms. Once you are ready, hit on the "Run Updater" button.

Step 4 - Update progress

Once the upgrade process is started, you will get real time notifications of the files being updated. You may click on the View logs link to view more.

Upgrading

It is always recommended to stay up to date with the latest version to avoid running into unecessary bugs or receive the latest updates which we provide.

3 things to remember every time you upgrade. backup,backup and backup!

 

Make it a habit to backup before uninstalling ANY component, including EasyBlog.

There are many school of thoughts or ways to backup your site, but stick to with what you're comfortable with. We recommend you look at this tutorial by JoomlaBlogger here.

Actually, upgrading is just simple as installing the component. You could either,

 

  • Install the latest installer on top of the existing component
  • Uninstall the previous version and install the latest version again.

Login to your Joomla back end and head on to the installation area at Extensions > Install / Uninstall

Step 2 (Installation by upload of package)

Locate for the package which you have downloaded earlier by clicking on the "Browse" button. Hit Upload File & Install button.

Upgrading is completed now.
