New Media Manager for EasyBlog 3.6
Media Manager for EasyBlog is a brilliant solution for you to insert images, audio and videos easily into your blog post. Since its initial release in EasyBlog 3.5, we have gathered numerous valuable feedback from you guys and rolled them into our next release. So here are some of the juicy stuff to expect from Media Manager in EasyBlog 3.6:
Introducing Media Launcher
Media Launcher lets user quickly decide, from the get go, whether to upload a media or choose an existing media to insert. Unlike EasyBlog 3.5 where users are expected to wait for mini manager to load up first, the new Media Launcher pops in a snap and is quick & simple to use!
High-performance Media Browser
The new Media Browser combines the simplicity of mini manager with the full-fledged functionalities of media manager. We have aligned two of these managers together into one single lightweight browser instance.
Did we mention the new media browser is extremely fast? We learned that are many EasyBlog users have high volume of images (~2000-3000 images) on their site. Hence, making Media Manager to work under that stress became our primary focus in this release. We have made significant performance optimizations, some which even we as developers thought are groundbreaking achievements.
- Thumbnails render significantly faster with no calculation overhead as it now uses only pure CSS methods to paint itself on to the screen.
- With the new folder pagination feature, only the most recent media items from your folders are displayed. The rest of the items are pushed into subsequent pages.
- While you are writing on your blog editor, Media Manager quietly indexes your folder and file tree in the background. When its time for you to pick something from the media browser, your images are ready for you to insert!
Media Uploader, now with Drag & Drop!
Media Uploader now supports drag & drop. Simply drag your images from your computer and drop it to the media uploader and uploading will start immediately. Additional features include switching to another upload path and the ability to abort an upload process halfway.
Expanded Media Editor
The Media Editor has been expanded with a preview section so that you can switch and compare between the different image sizes and see how it exactly look like before inserting into your blog post.
It now comes with a cool feature called Live Preview where you can immediately see the changes on your images as you adjust its parameters on the panel. The screenshot above shows how your image would look like when you add a caption on it.

Yes the current media manager although its advanced is confusing, even me as an admin needed to find my way around it. make it simpler is the way to go.
but please put in mind that frequent changes to the way the media manager works also confuses users ..
so easyblog new version will be 3.6 ? when how..0 Like -

Could it please be made possible to configure media manager so that userfiles are stored at an absolute URL path rather than a relative one?
That would be great for me - I have 2 different Joomla installs that are used to the same group of people - I really need to be able to just have all their files stored in one area regardless which site they are on - so that would require back-end config of an absolute http://www. type URL rather than how it currently is with relative ones....
Please, please, please.....
(edit - just to avoid confusion and concern - the 2 joomla installs share the same jos_users table so I don't think there would be any issues with duplicate user ID folders or anything like that)0 Like -
Andy, all image urls are stored as absolute URLs. It depends on whether or not the editor is configured to use relative or absolute URLs. If the editor is configured to use relative URL, then the absolute URL would be replaced
By the way, in your case wouldn't relative URL's solve this issue?0 Like -

Hmmm - Maybe I've missed a config option or something - I thought when configuring EasyBlog for user folders it had to be a link relative to the current site.... can I type in a http://www. type address?
Putting it another way, can User Fred login to www.sitea.com and www.siteb.com - both of which have EasyBlog installed - but all his files actually get stored and retrieved from just one location like www.sitea.com/userfiles/fred/

Hi guys,
great news, thats what i am looking for. my biggest problem was the blog image, that there was no folder support possible.
i have another question, with the new media manager, i also would like to change my image path to the path i used before... images/news/CATEGORIES
if i change the path in easy blog configuration in backend, does easyblog update all existing posts to the new path or will they just stay with the old one?
hopefully they stay with the current path, because otherwise i have to copy the "ugly" easyblog folder with just tons of pictures in it (without any system) to my well organized images/news/ directory, which will screw this one up...

2. EasyBlog does not alter with the image path on existing blog posts if you change to a new image path. This is perfect for your case.0 Like -

- Thumbnails and econes in the same folder created confusion in the choice of images. The display in the gallery was too basic and resumed all images in the folder duplication so ... I recommend sigplus integrated image gallery gallery as engine because it is effective and ... design and integration qr code in the page section details ... and separate the config image upload and video upload. I remain optimistic because the stackideas team is very reactive and professional0 Like -

1. Thumbnails & icon variations of the images are stored in the same folder where the original images are. I understand you may see 3 different versions of the file if you were to use another image browser e.g. JCE Image Manager. EasyBlog's Media Manager will display just fine.
2. Image gallery support is as per folder basis. Thanks for recommending Sigplus for further flexibility.
3. User can choose where to upload their media. So for your case, simply create a folder for images and another for videos and upload to those folder accordingly.0 Like -

One thing I may recommend / suggest / plead and beg for is offering this option up to the community, via pull request to the core for 3.1 It'd be awesome to use one manager across the board in all aspects of J!. #justsaying

Icing on the cake - File type icons... It appears that the power of this new file / image manager is going to make my 3rd party editor redundant (good for simplification of my site when I want as few 'extra' components as possible). One nice thing I'd miss though is when you add a link to an uploaded PDF, XLS(X), DOC(X), type file, it puts a nice tiny inline image to show the file type. (The user can then just delete that in the editor if (s)he doesn't want it... Any chance we could have that feature too?!?

Hi there,
It's a great piece of software. My problem with the images is that I cannot get the caption to appear underneath the image as a caption. It instead appears as alt tag information as you hover over the image.
Can you let me know what I am doing wrong as I've looked everywhere but cannot find where to add an actual caption to appear under the image. Would really value a response.
